إِذا نابَني خَطبٌ فَزِعتُ لِكَشفِهِ

إِلى خالِقي مِن دونِ كُلِّ حَميمِ

When troubles befall me, I flee to unveil them

To my Creator, not to any dear friend

وَإِنَّ مَنِ اِستَغنى وَإِن كانَ مُعسِراً

عَلى ثِقَةٍ بِاللَهِ غَيرُ مَلومِ

Truly, one who remains self-sufficient, though needy

With trust in Allah, is not to be blamed

أَلا رُبَّ عُسرٍ قَد أَتى اليُسرُ بَعدَهُ

وَغَمرَةِ كَربِ فُرِّجَت لِكَظيمِ

How often ease comes after hardship

And a heavy gloom is dispelled for the anguished

هُوَ الدَهرُ يَومان يَومُ بُؤسٍ وَشِدَّةٍ

وَيَومُ سُرورٍ لِلفَتى وَنَعيمِ

Such is time - one day of misery and hardship

Another of joy for the lad and bliss
