جدّدا مجلساً لعهدِ الشبابِ

ولذكرِ الآدابِ والأطرابِ

Renew a gathering for the era of youth

And for the memory of etiquette and joy

واسقياني إذا تجاوبت الأط

يارُ رطلينِ بادكارِ الشباب

And let me drink when the companions respond

O two measures of pure wine of youth

في كهولٍ إذا استدرّت حميا الك

أسِ لم ينطقوا بغيرِ الصوابِ

When the zeal of the old flares up

They do not speak except truth

نظروا في الكلامِ والنحوِ والشع

رِ فهم حجة على الألبابِ

They looked into speech, grammar and poetry

So they are proof for the intelligent

وإذا ما هفا النديمُ أقا

لوهُ وردّوا الأحلامَ دونَ الوثابِ

And when the boon companion murmurs

They respond with dreams not with folly
