صَدَدَتِ لِئَنَّ الخَدَّ منك أسيل

وِتهْبِ لِئنّ الطرف منكِ كحيلُ

If your cheek flows my tears

And your eyes shed kohl,

وسَرُّكِ إن الجسمَ منكِ مُنعّم

وجِسْمي منحوفٌ العظام نحيلُ

And your secret is that your body is soft

While my body is bony and lean

فيا أخت ظبي البيْدِ وهو مروّعٌ

واختِ قضيب البان حين يميلُ

O sister of the shy gazelle and it is scared

And sister of the erect spear when it tilts

لعل خيالاً منك يطرق مَضجَعي

وهيهاتَ يأتي منه فهو بخيل

Maybe a fantasy of you visits my bed

Alas, it does not come from it, for it is stingy

وهل لي من برد بريقك رشفة

وأينَ إلى نيلِ النجوم سبيل

Is there any coolness of your lightning for me a sip?

And where is the way to obtain the stars?

أراكِ على هَجْري وأنتِ مقيمةٌ

فكيف إذَا ما آن مِنْكِ رَحيلُ

I see you ignoring me and you are resident

So how about when the time comes for you to depart?

يقول رِفاقي ذالك البانُ واللّوى

فلا تَمنَعَنَّ الدمعَ حينَ يسيلُ

My friends say that is the erect and the bending

So do not prevent the tear when it flows

فللربع حقٌ بالذين عهدتهُم

وَهمْ مِنْه في تلك القباب حُلولُ

For the dwellers have a right over those you knew

And they, in those domes, are lodged

وإن أتهموا داراً وانجدتُ منهم

فمنك جَوىً في القلب ليس يزول

And if they blame a house and I am saved from them

Still, there is no dissipating the yearning for you in my heart

لحى الله عيشاً يشتكي الجدبَ أهلُها

وفي رمِع غيثُ السماحِ هَطول

May God prolong a life whose people complain of barrenness

And in the glitter of its rain the downpour
