1. مَنْ مُجيري مِنْ شبيه القمَرَ

    مائساً مثل القضِيب النّضِرِ

    Who will protect me from one with a moonlike beauty

    Walking proudly like a tender sapling?

  2. من عذيري مِنْ هَوى ذي حَوَرِ

    لحظُهُ يعفَلُ فعلَ القَدَرِ

    Who will prevent me from passion for one with languorous eyes

    Whose glance unravels the work of Fate?

  3. لو رأيتم خدّه مَهْمَا بدَا

    لرأيتم زهراً في نَهَرِ

    If you saw his cheek, no matter how it appeared,

    You would see a blossom by the river.

  4. لو رأيتم عِطْفَه في رِدّفِه

    لشْهدتم أسْمَراً في أَعفرِ

    If you saw his buttocks in his pants,

    You would witness a tawny in a dusty-colored.

  5. عَامريٌّ أهلُه من عامرٍ

    دارُهم بين الغضَا والسَّمَرِ

    My tribe, the Aamiris, their home is Aamir

    Their abode between barren land and sheep-grazing land.

  6. سكنوا مني السوادين فهم

    في فؤادي إِن نأوا عن بَصري

    The black-eyed ones dwell in my heart though far from my sight

    Keeping me awake though I pretend to slumber.

  7. وأعاضوني بنومِي سهراً

    فإِلى كم اشتكى وآسَهَري

    My friend, how long will this

    Spending my life in vain desires continue?

  8. يا خليلي إلى كم ذاوذا

    يتقضّى في الأماني عُمري

    Whenever a lightning flash lights the barren tracts

    My yearning for the people of barren lands diminishes.

  9. كلما لاح بَريقٌ بالغَضَا

    قَلّ عنْ أهلِ الغَضَا مُصْطَبري

    Whenever a caravan passes by the sand dunes

    I say “O caravan, perhaps you bring news of me!”

  10. كلّما عرّض ركْبٌ بالحِمَا

    قلْتُ يا ركبُ عَسَى مِنْ خبري

    Many men claim poetry though

    A single drop from my rain drowns them.

  11. يدَّعي الشعرَ رجالٌ طالمَا

    أغْرقتهُم قطرةٌ من مطري

    Neither Zuheir in his rhymes overtakes me

    Nor does Jarir gallop in my tracks.

  12. لا زُهَيْرٌ فيه يقْفوني ولا

    لجرير مَرْكضٌ في أثري

    None who draws from a rich well

    Is like one who carves verse from stone.

  13. ليسَ مَنْ يَغْرِفُه من زاخرٍ

    مثل من ينحتُه من حَجَرِ

    I am the best and the first of the people

    The elite of night at the break of dawn

  14. أنا للقوم أخيرٌ أولٌ

    وخيارُ اللّيل وقت السَّحَرِ

    And when they praise their likes

    My praise is in the verdant companion

  15. وإِذا ما امتدحوا أمثالهم

    فمديحي في رَفيقِ الخَضَرِ

    And on Mount Tur, twisting and winding

    I see the fire of Moses in the folded darkness

  16. وعلى الطُّور العواجيّ أرى

    نارَ موسى في الدَّجا المُنْعَكِرِ

    The Sheikh Hajj's cloak, well done!

    It is from pilgrimage and from struggle

  17. فجنابُ الشيخ حجي حَبّذا

    هُوَ مِنْ حجٍ ومن مُعْتمِرِ

    That is God's secret and the pole

    Who is God's shadow above mankind

  18. ذاك سِرَّ الله والقطب

    الذي هو ظلُّ الله فوق البشرِ

    He surpassed the competing saints, indeed left them behind

    Surpassing the excellent steed in speed

  19. سَبق السَّاعين بل فاتهم

    سَابقاً سبقَ الجوادِ الضّمرِ

    Not every growth of earth bears sweet fruit

    He shows distraction in the world, and how much

  20. من كَمثل ابن أبي بكرٍ وما

    كلّ نبتِ الأرضِ حلوُ الثمرِ

    Clarity lies beneath that turbidity!

    And how many in passionate love are fearful

  21. يُظهِرُ الأشغالَ بالدنيا وكم

    من صفاءٍ تحت ذاك الكدر

    And the sought-after and cowardly and valiant

    And how many who gained wealth while asleep

  22. وَلَكم بين مُرِيدٍ في الهوى

    ومُرادٍ وجَبَانٍ وجريء

    And strivers who did not attain victory

    With divine aid one has soared who has soared

  23. ولكم من نائمٍ حَاز الغنى

    ومُجِدٍ لم يَفزْ بالظفرِ

    Lord of profit though no travel occurred

    Dukhan saved him from the rule

  24. بالعنايات سما مَنْ قد سما

    رب ربح لم يقع من سفر

    Of one who need not fear its return from the east

    O namesake of Mustafa, O sincere devotee

  25. أنجيته دوحة من حكم

    ليسَ يَخشى عودها مِن خَوَرِ

    Faithful in hardship and in ease

    You are solace for the son of Husayn

  26. يا سميّ المصطفى يا ذا الصَّفَا

    والوفا عندَ المكانِ العَسِرِ

    Comfort in a weakened, embraced arm

    His uncle, his companion, his confidante

  27. أنتَ حولَ ابنِ الحسين راحةٌ

    في ذراعٍ مُقْلَةٌ في مَحْجَرِ

    Can an eye tire of the pleasure of seeing him?

    From your creation the Merciful brought forth

  28. خِلُّهُ صاحبُه مُؤنِسُه

    هَلْ تمِلّ العينُ أنسَ النَّظرِ

    Abundance in abundance in abundance

    From their light the Merciful forged

  29. أنبعَ الرحمنُ من خلقيكما

    كوثراً في كوثرِ في كوثرِ

    A gem in a gem in a gem

    Our power, our chiefs are our armaments

  30. سَبَكَ الرحمنُ من نُوْرِهما

    جوهراً في جوهرٍ في جوهرٍ

    You two, our refuge in peril

    So you were granted success and remain

  31. ذخرُنا عُدَّتُنا ساداتُنا

    أنتما معقلنا في الحذرِ

    A lightning bolt in a rumbling, pouring cloud

  32. فوُقيتمْ وبَقِيْتم مَا شرى

    بارقٌ في غدَقٍ مُثْعَنْجِرِ
