1. ما لي حفِظتُ العهدَ من آسماءِ

    وهوى ابنةِ البكري غير هوائي

    Why did I keep my promise to Asma

    And fell for Ibnat Al-Bukari against my desire?

  2. ما رمتُ صاحبةً سِواها إنما

    أسماءُ حاولت البديل سوائي

    I never pursued another woman except her

    Asma tried to replace me, so look at her promise and my faithfulness

  3. أترى أحوطُ لها الهوى وأصونه

    وتخُون فانْظر عهدها ووفائي

    With swaying hips, overflowing buttocks

    And protuberant belly

  4. ميّالةُ الأعطاف بل مُنهالة الأرداف

    بل مهظومةُ الأحشاء

    Like a rosy gazelle, or a smooth

    Banana tree, or a tilted palm tree

  5. كالظبية الأدماء بل كالبانة الم

    لداء أو كالرملة الوَعساء

    She walked in the morning over the acacias, and her coldness in it was complaining and lamenting

    She did not know about my long night or what was in me of yearning and wakefulness

  6. جَلتِ الصَباحَ على الأقاح وبُرُدها

    فيه قنا ونقاً من الانقاء

    A burning liver scorched by the cool breeze

    And ribs folded over embers

  7. لم تدر عن ليلي الطويل ولا بها

    ما بي من الأشواقِ والبُرحاء

    And I really got tired of blaming fate

    And got bored in the land of humiliation, wandering

  8. كَبدٌ يحرقه النسيمُ ببرده

    وأضالع طويت على الرمضا

    I looked around the countries but did not find

    A free man to answer my call

  9. ولقد سأمت على الزّمَان تعتبي

    ومَلِلْتُ في أرضِ الهوانِ ثوائي

    O caravan in the fertile al-Jund, lightning

    Rains its clouds in the morning of my evening

  10. وأدرت طرفي في البلاد فلم أجد

    حُراً إذا أدعو يجُيبُ دعائي

    In the impregnable Damilah fortress, its king

    Is called the most generous of the generous

  11. يا رَكْبُ بالجَنَد الخصِيبة بارقُ

    تهْمي سحائبَهُ صَباحَ مسائي

    Incline to al-Mansour, do not talk

    About Barmak and Abi Uday al-Ta'i

  12. وبحُصْنِ دملوة المنيع ذِمارهُ

    مَلكٌ يسمى أكرمَ الكرماءِ

    Call Abu al-Fath, whom Eden opened up for him

    The supplicants and Mecca of al-Bat'ha

  13. ميلوا إلى المنصور لا تتحدثوا

    عن برمك وأبي عدي الطائي

    And India and distant Sind, his praise

    From them, and may God perpetuate good praise

  14. نادوا أبا الفتح الذي فتحت له

    عدنُ الدعاة ومكةُ البطحاء

    If they thank his favours or transgress

    The transgressors will face a calamitous morning

  15. والهندُ والسند البعيد ثناؤه

    منهم وأيّمُ الله خير ثناء

    The third of the two moons, this is the third of the two lifetimes

    This is the greatest of the great

  16. إن يشكرون نعماه زادوا أو طغوا

    صَبحَ الطغاة بغارةٍ شعواء

    Wherever he marched I saw a rain of submitted necks

    Wherever he traveled I saw a sea of blood

  17. ذا ثالث القمرين هذا ثالث العمرين

    هذا أعظمُ العظماء

    God made him king, and the Giver of Favors

    Will not take away what He gave of favors

  18. في حيثُ سَار رأيت وابل عسجدٍ

    في حيثُ صَال رأيت بحر دماء

    God made him king of the affairs of His servants

    When He saw him as the most merciful of the merciful

  19. اللهُ ملّكهُ وليس بسالبٍ

    منه الذي أولاه من نعماء

    Why were his dogs barking and

    The wolf howled in the wilderness?

  20. اللهِ مَلّكَه أمور عباده

    لما رأه أرحم الرحماء

    By Allah, if you gesture to him with a finger

    I will break his ankles with determination

  21. ما بال علوانٍ نُبَحْنَ كلابُه

    وعَوى عَوِي الذئب في البيداء

    What is his state, what befell him, what is his gain

    While the ram knows the cooking pot's boiling

  22. تالله لو تومي إليه بأصْبِع

    لكسرتُ قادمتيه بالأيماء

    The kingdom is from God beforehand, so what is

    The envy of the envious and the power of the weak?

  23. ما حالُه ما نابُه ما ظفره

    والكبش يَعْرفُ مطبخَ الشواء

    If you wanted, you could have spread justice

    And filled every space

  24. المُلْكُ من قبلِ الآله ومَا عَسى

    حسَدُ الحسود وقدرةُ الضعفاء

    And it seems easy to you whoever rebels

    He is only a flea to your white palm

  25. لو شئت طبقتَ البلادَ أَعنَّةً

    وأسنَّةً وملأتَ كلَّ فَضاء

    The nobles of Beish and the Hejaz bowed down

    To you out of awe, and they are the descendants of Zahra

  26. ويهونَ عندَكَ من تجبّر انَّه

    فصٌّ لراحةِ كفّكَ البيضاء

    And Kananah, inhabitants of Hail, have become

    Servants of this splendid state

  27. أشرافُ بيشٍ والحجاز تواضَعَتْ

    لك هيبةً وهم بنو الزهرء

    You fulfilled the need of every seeker

    And removed what blindness all have

  28. وكنانةٌ سكانُ حلي أصْبحَتْ

    خدماً لهذي الدولة الغراء

    And the arrows that destroy their people frightened me

    And the writer of sorrows destroyed what is yours

  29. قضيتَ حاجة كلِّ طالب حاجةٍ

    وكشفتَ ما في الكلّ من عمياء

    How often have I hurried my rides to you

    But your distance and the forty days' journey stood between me and you

  30. وسهَامُ أهْلَك أهلَها وأخافني

    وأباد ما لَك كاتبُ الكدراء

    The arrows ruined me, and you don't know what happened

    And the money was hidden under a thousand gowns

  31. كم قد شددتُ إلى فِناك ركائبي

    فاتي ورسمُ الأربعين ورائي

    I entrusted it to the honest man, but

    The clerks are only trustees

  32. خرِبتْ سهامُ ولست تعلم ماجرى

    والمال دُسّ تحتَ ألف كساء

    How much they burn, and how can a speck of musk

    Patch a worn-out gown?

  33. ضمنّتها الرجلَ الأمينَ وإنّما

    كُتّابُ حاصلِها سوى أمناء

    You made him swear not to partner, but

    The details of the partners were hidden from him

  34. كم يحرقون وكم ترقَّع مَا عَسى

    قيراط مِسْكٍ في بُهَار خراء

    It hunts honest game while it is safe

    And delivers the young of the hissing viper

  35. حلّفتَه إن لا يشاركُ إنَّما

    خفيَت عليه دقائق الشركاء

    Thousands tied up in arrows, most of it

    Written in the name of Jurists

  36. تصطاد صدَ الوحش وهي سليمة

    وتسلّم ابنَ الحيةِ الرّقطاء

    And the case of Ma'aqab who takes his pay

    And replaces white with red

  37. الفي مَعَادٍ في سهام أغلّها

    كُتِبتْ باسم صهورة الفقهاء

    And your armies whose income he changes

    To them and spends it without loyalty

  38. وقضيةُ المعقاب يأخذ وقره

    ويُبدّلُ الْبيضاء بالحَمْراء

    His acquisitions increased and he went astray as if

    He owned the throne and was the mate of nobility

  39. وجوامك الأجناد يبدل ريعها

    لهم ويصرفهم بغير وفاء

    His stature increased and his nameh lengthened

    You see him like a ten-year she-camel

  40. كَثُرت مكاسبه وتاه كأنه

    ملكُ السرير وصَاحب الزعلا

    Take some of what is yours from him before it is lost

    For caution and negligence are not equal

  41. عَلِيتْ مناكِبه وطال سَنامُه

    فتراه مثلَ الناقةِ العُشراء

    Save your country, it is ruined by his tyranny

    And you brought justice to the complainer

  42. خذ بعض ما لَك منه قبلَ فواته

    فالحزمَ والإهمالُ غيرُ سواء

    You were prevented from purifying Yusuf like

    Al-Husayn was prevented from fresh water

  43. أدرك بلادَك إنّها مِن جوره

    فَنيتْ وكم أنصفتَ ذا شكوآء

    And despite my unwillingness that day, they

    Attended while I did not attend with the poets

  44. عُوّقتَ عن تطهير يوسف مثلَ ما

    مُنعَ الحسينُ ورود عذبِ الماء

    And if I once carried their flag

    Often did the crowd carry my own

  45. وبرغمِ أنفَى يومَ ذلك إنّهم

    حضروا ولم أحضر مع الشعراء

    And if I come after them, then Muhammad

    He who is last is the foremost of news

  46. ولَئن تعبتُ لوآءهم في مَرّةٍ

    فلطَالما تِبعَ الجميعُ لوائي

    I remain, O unique king, immortalized

    In command, protected from afflictions

  47. ولئن أتيت وراءَهم فمحمَدُ

    وهو الأخيرُ مقدَّمُ الأنباء

    Neither has the tongue moved in rhetoric

    Nor have the blossoms of stars shone in the darkness

  48. ولاَ زلت يا فرد الملوك مخلّداً

    في الأمرِ محفوظاً من الأسواء

  49. ما دارَ في الحنكِ اللّسانُ وما سرت

    زُهرُ النجومِ تلوحُ في الظلمآء
