O valley of Pan, the rain has watered your slopes
And no one but you flows with it cascading down
O valley of Pan, tell us of our neighbor
For news may give joy to the listening heart
Why did those who turned away spurn me and act cold
And why, after intimacy, did the emigrants shun me
That Shweid was one I knew well
With intoxicated eyes and a flirtatious glance
My life was not gladdened by his love
When his face brightened, his hair darkened
I still marvel at the arch of his brow
Until he shot me with a bow without a string
He brought me up, yet was fickle towards me
With a retracting flank and hunched waist
O you who turned away, rejecting me, leaving me to perish
Look at me, perhaps a look will help
Go back to how you were, do not let misfortune touch you
Be gentle with your servant, do not let others change you
If I am captured, release me, if I am sought, pay my ransom
For the Romans may be ransomed when captured
