Last year we visited your tent, oh Zainab
But you snubbed us, so we blame you
Then you fell ill and said your father scolded you
Oh, if only the gossiping tongues were never created
My eyes have never seen a gazelle like you
With breasts that pierce, and a glance that strikes
But how is that delicate curved waist
And that smooth polished cheek
I neither love nor do not love, yet I
See myself as guilty though innocent
The beauty mark near your temple made the crescent moon
A face the scorpion dislikes for the crescent moon
I have the right of kinship after
The right of companionship, and some accompany you
Oh you traveling to Buhaire's blessed caravan
In which he is prosperous and the saddlebags are fertile
Kiss the hand of Ibn Buhaire, his fingers
Are clouds dripping with dew and pouring down
Sometimes I transgress by visiting over and over
And leave my master though he is absent
If I came to Yathrib before that to Mecca
Or if I came to Mecca, missing him in Yathrib
And your father Buhaire, wherever I came to him
Welcomed me loudly, the caravan beating drums
