The homes of my people were filled with knowledge,
While the people of Zaroud were blind.
And the bucket drew for you bitter water,
While destiny was cruel to you.
For your sake my body was clothed,
For your sake I was cured of illness.
For your sake I made a vow
To be kind to the innocent and the oppressed.
A hut, a shack, veiled with shrubs,
Secluded and obscured from view.
Ruined and tattered,
Its door askew.
Confused, plundered, Arabian, mixed,
Packed together, straight like a stick.
Poetry like magic, magical indeed,
Treacherous, untrue to oaths and covenants.
Drowsy, sleepy, miserable, depressed,
A sun that does not shine on the oppressed.
Cooing like doves enjoying bounty.
If you could see the one who came out to face us,
You would see a hero who humbles every tyrant.
They crept, crawled, stood like sticks,
Showed wonder and amazement. I awoke and regretted.
They ruled, unravelled, ripped apart,
Violating the sanctity of the holy months.
They lingered around Safa, then rushed to desecrate it.
And leaned against it, and placed their mouths on it.
O pure one, it passes away,
My affliction is great, my fortune small.
My will betrayed me, alas my determination faded.
They burned my liver, violated my sanctuary.
I was on pilgrimage, seeking forgiveness,
Only to see my feet covered in my own blood.
O daughter of Wasa, is there no relief
For the free man from such pain?
You are the sister of the antelope, pure of sin,
And the star Suhail, brother of generosity.
Chief of Arabs, giver of gold,
Of pure lineage, dispeller of worries.
His face is a moon, his palm a rain,
Well known, not one to conceal.
A lion in the saddle, with spirited steeds
That he hurries faster than lightning.
So much care, authority, prosperity,
With waves of generosity ever streaming.
He benefits, returns, prevails,
Supports, gives generously to all people.
The custom of the Son of Waleed is to protect travellers
And bring close those far away, like a merciful kinsman.
O Abu Amr, here are precious pearls
Better scattered, a scattering with order.
You remained for us, were loyal and lived on,
Sprinkled and lasting, an excellent brother.
