إنَّ فَقْد الأهلينَ كان عظيما

ومصابَ الأحبابِ صارَ جسيما

The loss of loved ones was immense,

And the affliction of loved ones became grave.

يرحمُ اللّهَ من تعزى وعزَّى

مؤمناً كي يزبح عنهُ الهمُومَا

May God have mercy upon whoever is consoled and consoles,

A believer, so worries may cease from him,

واتركنَّ الوسواسَ فهو من

الشيطان مهمَا عصيتَه أن يدومَا

And leave obsession for it is from,

Satan, no matter how much you resist him, for it to last.

زحزح الحزنَ والهمومَ عن القلبِ

تعيشُ العيشَ الهنىّ السليما

Remove sorrow and worries from the heart,

So you may live a pleasant, wholesome life.

لا تفكرْ ولا تذكر طباعا

سلفتْ من مصاحبٍ لن يقيما

Do not think or recall qualities,

Of a departed companion who will not settle.

وتمسكْ بحبلِ ربك واذكرْ

يومَ لا ينفعُ الحميمُ حميمَا

And hold firmly to your Lord’s rope and remember,

A day when neither intimate friend will avail.

فعزاء فيما تقضَّى وصبْراً

تَلْقَ بعد العزاء فوزاً عظيما

So consolation for what is decreed and patience,

After consolation you will attain great success.

أنت أولَى بالحلمِ من أن تعزى

بافتقادِ لأنت صرتَ العَليمَا

You are more worthy of restraint than to be consoled,

For missing, as you have become the All-Knowing.

من يعزى الأنامَ كيف يعزَّى

وهْو قد صار في الأمورِ حَكيمَا

How can the consoler of people be consoled?

As he has become in matters All-Wise.

فالقضَا سابقٌ من الله حَتماً

فاشكرِ الله قاعداً ومقيمَا

Fate comes before all from God definitively,

So thank God while settled or traveling.

وعليكَ السلامُ من والد وآ

لَكَ لم ينسَ منكَ عهداً قديما

And upon you peace from a father and,

Who did not forget you since long ago.
