1. أتاني كتابٌ من سليلِ محمدِ

    حليفِ الودادِ العذْبِ أهل التوددِ

    A letter came to me from a descendant of Muhammad

    The sweet ally of affection, the people of affection

  2. فتى ذُوندًى نسلُ الكريمِ بلعربِ

    سلالةُ عبدِ الله أهل التهجُّدِ

    A young man from a generous Arab race

    The lineage of Abdullah, the people of devotion

  3. أتاني كتابٌ منك يا ابنَ محمدٍ

    فكانَ لقلبي كالزُّلالِ المبرَّدِ

    A letter came to me from you, O son of Muhammad

    It was like cool refreshing water to my heart

  4. ولما أتاني غدوةً وقرأتُه

    سلا القلب عن ذكرى طلولٍ ومعهدِ

    When it came to me one morning and I read it

    My heart flowed with memories of past friends and places

  5. وعن جيرةٍ بالمنحنى وملاعبِ

    بحُزْوَى وعن زيدٍ وعمرو ومَزْيَدِ

    Of a neighborhood on the slope and playing fields

    In Hoza and of Zaid, Amr and Mazid

  6. ولم أنسَ أياماً لنَا وليالياً

    حساناً نقضِّيها على رَغم حُسَّدِ

    I cannot forget the beautiful days and nights we had

    Despite the envy of foes

  7. صناعة فكر كالجواهرِ رُصِّعَتْ

    تماثيله من لُؤْلُؤٍ وزَبَرْجَدِ

    Thoughts were crafted like precious gems

    Its images made of pearls and emeralds

  8. أتى صادراً نظماً ونثراً سطورُهُ

    ضمينة طِرسٍ كالجُمانِ المنضَّدِ

    It came with prose and verse, its lines

    Filled with images like well-arranged necklaces

  9. تَرَى فيه أبكارَ المعانِي كأنَّهَا

    قلائدُ عقيانٍ بأجيادِ خُرَّدِ

    You see in it the first fruits of meanings as though

    Strands of pearls on the necks of maidens

  10. تفاوحَ ريحُ المسْكِ من نشْر طيبهِ

    تَفاوُحَ ماء الوردِ في خد أغيدِ

    The scent of musk diffuses when its perfume is spilled

    Like the scent of roses on the cheeks of young women

  11. وحسنُ ثناء مع سلامِ منمَّقِ

    أتَى وارداً من سيِّد لِمسوَّدِ

    Eloquent praise and polished greetings

    Came from the master of the blackened tents

  12. ولما قَرأْتُ النظمَ جاشَتْ قريحتِي

    كآذىِّ بحْرِ بالفصاحةٍ مُزْبِدِ

    When I read the verse, my intellect boiled

    With eloquence, like a sea whipped into waves

  13. فلا تَحسبنَّ البعدَ يُسلى أخَا الهوى

    كريماً وإن كانوا بأبعد مَقْعدِ

    Do not think distance consoles the heart's friend

    Even if they are in the furthest seat

  14. سولا تحسبَنَّ المُعْوَليَّ محمدا

    يُضَعْضِعُه زلزالُ واش وحُسَّدِ

    Do not think troubles shake Muhammad

    With the quakes and hatred of foes

  15. وعِشْ في سرور وابقَ في نِعَمِ ودُمْ

    بخير وفي نُعْمَى وَعزٍّ مُخَلّدِ

    Live in joy and stay in blessings

    In prosperity, honor and eternal bliss
