    بحيثُ الفناءُ الرحبُ والنائلُ الغمرُ

    Yours is the bounty, my lord, and yours are praise and thanks;

where the courtyard is spacious and the largesse overflowing.

May you remain aloft upon glory’s towering mountain,

its flanks impregnable, unshaken by time.

    May you remain—your domain guarded—victorious,

with conquest and triumph your companions in your eminence.

I have hopes in you, and panegyrics of praise

whose like neither verse nor prose can match—

panegyrics following one another from a poet’s inspiration,

like a sea’s current, adorned by “folding and unfolding.”

I have another need; its fulfillment rests with you,

and it is not fitting that Zayd or ʿAmr should take charge of it.

Long endure, O Imam of the Muslims, Balʿarab,

scion of Sultan ibn Sayf—victory be yours.

And live upon the heights of an abiding, everlasting realm,

mighty; and in the Hereafter, may triumph and reward be yours.
