مشايخُنا مصابكمُ عظيمُ
وصبركمُ لدى الجُلَّى جسيمُ
Our masters, your calamity is great
And your patience with the glorious is tremendous
لأنكمُ جبالٌ راسياتٌ
إذا خَفَّتْ لدى الهيجا حُلُومُ
For you are mountains, firmly rooted
When wild winds blow, you do not budge
ثقالٌ لا تحرككم رياحٌ
أجلْ أنَّي يحرككم نسيمُ
No gales can move you
Only a gentle breeze stirs you
لكمْ عزمٌ وأفئدِة شدادٌ
يزيِّنها بِكُم خُلُقٌ كَرِيمُ
You have resolve and courageous hearts
Adorned with noble character
فما قَولي لكم صبراً ولكن
أقولُ لكم به أجرٌ عظيمُ
So I say not “patience” to you
But say your reward is magnificent
وأنتمْ سابقون بكلِّ فضل
يدلُّ عليكمُ الكرمُ القديمُ
You preceded in every virtue
Your ancient generosity attests it
وأنتمْ سادةُ الأملاكِ طرّاً
وطفلكمُ كشيخكمُ حليمُ
You are the noblest of angels incarnate
Your child like your elder, forbearing
سلامةُ كلِّ شىء إن سلمتمْ
فكلُّ العالمين بكم سليمُ
All is safe if you are unharmed
For through you the worlds are secure
وأنتمْ في ذُرى العليا شُموس
حياة للورَى عيشوا ودومُوا
You are suns in the highest orbit
Oh leaders, live long lives
وعش يا حميدَ العلياء دهراً
فتىً سلطاننا أنتَ الحكيمُ
And live long, O Hamid Al Ali
Our sultan’s wise son
ففي الأولى لكم شرفٌ وعّز
وفي الأخرى لكم فوزٌ مقيمُ
In the first, you have honor and glory
In the last, you have success everlasting
فلا تأسَوا على ما فاتَ وادعوا
إلهاً إنه بكمُ رحيمُ
Do not grieve what is past, and pray
To a God who is surely merciful to you
إذا لم ترجُ للفاني رجوعا
ففيمً الحزنُ فيه والهمومُ
If the transient will not return
Why then the sorrow and worries?
فلا ترجُو من الدنيا دَوَاما
فلا شىءٌ على الدنيا يدومُ
Do not expect permanence from this world
Nothing in the world endures
عزاؤُك يا ابن سلطان بن سيف
بمن أوْدَى وأنْتَ لنا مقيمُ
Your consolation, son of Sultan bin Saif
Is He who brought loss though you remain
سيمضى كلُّ من يمشِي عليها
ولا خلق بها أبداً مقيمُ
All who walk upon it will pass
No creature in it stays forever
فكلُّ هالكٌ لا بدّ يوما
ويبقى وجهُه الربُّ العظيمُ
All must perish one day
Only His face, the Almighty, remains
وكنْ كأخيك سيفٍ ذى المعالي
هزبرٌ لا تروِّعه الكلومُ
Be as your brother Saif Al Maali
Unperturbed, whom no insults disturb
ولا السرَّاء تبطرُه فيطغَى
ولا أي الهموم به تحومُ
Neither fortune makes him arrogant
Nor any worries hover around him
وليس يهوله دفْنُ الأفاضى
ولا الأدنى وإن أوْدى الحليمُ
He is not horrified by burying nobles
Nor the lowly, though the forbearing perish
هو القَرمُ الشديدُ البطشُ جدّاً
إذا تَعْنُو لسطوته القرومُ
He is the fierce, mighty in power
When foes cower before his rule
فإن العالمينَ لكم عيالٌ
فريقا بالميالِ فيستقيمُوا
For all people are your dependents
So guide some with kindness to straightness
وجودُوا للعيالِ بما لديكم
فجودُ كمُ به تَحيَي الرسومُ
Bestow on your dependents what you have
For your generosity revives customs
فما الدنيا تعدُّ بدارِ خلدٍ
لعمري إن مربعها وخيمُ
The world is no home of immortality
By my life, its expanse is but a tent
محالٌ أن يطيبَ العيش فيها
وعادتُها تنامُ ولا تنيمُ
It is impossible to live happily in it
Its nature is to sleep, not to slumber
هي الدنيا فباطنها قبيحٌ
وظاهرُها لرائيها وَسِيمُ
The world’s essence is ugly
Though its appearance to its viewer is fair
هي الملحُ الأجاجُ يصير سمّاً
لشاربِ مائِها والناسُ هِيمُ
It is bitter saltwater
Poison to the drinker, though people crave it
فإنْ كنتَ المطوفَ فخذ حِذَاراً
وخذ منها كما أخذ الفَطِيمُ
If you roam it, take great care
And take from it as the wise have taken
عزاءً واحتساباً واصطباراً
فإن الصبر بالجُلَّى يَقومُ
Solace, acceptance, and fortitude
For patience rectifies calamities
وخُصَّ إمامَنا منا سلاماً
إمامَ المسلمينَ هُوَ العَلِيمُ
Give special greetings from us
