1. خليلىّ هل بعد السنين الغوائرِ

    رجوعٌ لأيام الشباب الغوابرِ

    My beloved, after the fleeting years

    Is there a return to the days of vanished youth?

  2. وهل جيرةٌ بالمنحنى شتَّ شملُهم

    أم الشملُ مجموعٌ بساحةِ حاجرِ

    Are the neighbors at the bend still together

    Or has the group dispersed in the courtyards of Hajar?

  3. وهلْ ذاكرٌ ذاك الحبيبُ الذي نأَى

    عهوداً تناساهن أمْ غيرُ ذاكرِ

    Does that beloved who went away

    For eras that made him forget - does he still remember?

  4. عهودُ هوى لم يمحُها من قلوبنَا

    كرورُ عشياتٍ ومرُّ بواكرِ

    The days of love that the passing of evenings and dawns

    Could not erase from our hearts.

  5. ولما مررْنا بالديار التي عفَتْ

    سقَينا ثراهَا من شئون المحَاجرِ

    When we passed by the abodes that were deserted

    We watered their remains from the rainwater reservoirs

  6. فظَلنَا بها نبكى وهلْ ينفعُ البُكا

    بِأرجاءِ ساحاتِ الرسومِ الدوائرِ

    So we remained there crying - but does crying avail

    In the expanses of the courtyards with fading paintings?

  7. ديارُ اللّتيَّاليس فيها مؤانسٌ

    يُرى غير غزلان الظباءِ النوافرِ

    Homes with no more joyful company to be seen

    Except the deer of the wilderness leaping in the distance

  8. فتاةٌ لها وجهٌ يضىءُ كأنه

    إضاءةُ بدرٍ في دُجنَّةِ كافرِ

    A maiden with a face shining as if

    It were the moonlight in the darkness of an infidel land

  9. وجفنٌ سقيمٌ فاتنُ اللحظِ فاترٌ

    كحيلٌ فما وَجْدى عليه بفاتِر

    Languishing eyelids, alluring glances, faded

    Like kohl - and of no use to one faded

  10. وسالفةٌ كالسيفِ سُلَّ بغمده

    وجيدٌ كجيدِ الظبىِ نزهةُ ناظِر

    A figure swaying like an unsheathed sword

    A neck graceful as the neck of a gazelle, delight of the onlooker

  11. وصدرٌ به حُقٌ من العاجِ قاعدٌ

    ولكن له فِعلْ القنا المتشاجرِ

    A bosom in which rests a bubble of ivory

    Yet acts with the zeal of close kin when roused

  12. وخصرٌ لها واهٍ ضعيفٌ كسلوتى

    وردف كَدِعصِ الرمل ملءُ المآزر

    A delicate supple waist weaker than my thinness

    And a bottom the size of a sand dune, filling the robes

  13. من الخِفراتِ البيضِ دُعجُ عيونِها

    إذا نظرتْ تَسْبى الوَرَى بالنواظِرِ

    Eyes white like pearls glimpsed through cover

    Looking upon creation with stealing glances

  14. حياةٌ لذِى موتٍ وموتٌ لعاشقٍ

    وداءٌ لذى بُعْد وسَلْوَةُ خَاطرِ

    A life that is death and death to the lover

    And a chronic pain to the distant one, yet comfort to the soul

  15. فَدعْهَا وسَلِّ القلبَ عنكَ بمدحٍ مَنْ

    صغَى لعلاهُ كلُ بادٍ وحاضرِ

    Leave her be, and distract your heart with praise of one

    Who lends an ear to the eminent and commoner alike

  16. هُوَ الملكُ الهادِى أبو العربِ الفتَى

    سلالةُ سلطانِ بنِ سيفِ المُنَاصِرِ

    He is the guiding king, father of the Arab heroes

    Scion of the Sultan Bin Sayf Al-Mansoori

  17. لهُ جوُد كفٍّ لا يقاسُ بأولٍ

    وبحرُ عطاءِ لا يقاسُ بآخِر

    His open hand has no equal or peer

    And the sea of his gifts has no first or last

  18. سَمَا مُشْمَخِرّاً فوق هام السُّها على

    ملوكِ البرايا بالندَى المتواترِ

    He rose high above the summit of glory

    Above the kings of the land with continuous benevolence

  19. فتًى همُه كسبُ المحامدِ والعلا

    وتفريقُ مالٍ بين ناهٍ وآمرِ

    A stalwart whose concern is to gain praise and ascend

    And distribute wealth among complainant and grateful

  20. له منطقٌ يعطى الرجال فَطانة

    وغرةُ وجهٍ كالشموسِ السوافرِ

    His speech grants wisdom to men

    While the radiance of his face is like the rising sun

  21. زيارَتُه تجلى القلوبَ من الصدَى

    ورؤيا محياه جلاءُ الخواطرِ

    Visiting him illuminates hearts of their rust

    And the sight of his smile clears minds of their sorrows

  22. أفادَ الموالى من سَخاوَته كما

    أبادَ المعادى بالقنا والبواتِر

    He granted refuge with his generosity as

    He destroyed the enemy with spear and cannons

  23. إذا صالَ ما بأسُ الأسود الخوادر

    وإنْ جادَ ما جودُ البحار الزواخرِ

    When he prays, the prowess of the darkest of nights

    And when he gives, the abundance of the deepest seas

  24. شديدٌ على الأعداءِ لكنَّ دأْبَه

    إذا ما جنَى الجانى له عَفُو قادرِ

    Stern towards enemies but his way is

    When the offender seeks refuge, to grant pardon

  25. زكَا عنصراً من دَوْحةٍ يغربيّة

    تعالتْ سموّاً من كرامِ العناصرِ

    Of pure Arab stock from the gardens of Dubai

    That rose to the heights of the generous elements

  26. فأنت الفتَى وابنُ الفتى وأبو الفتى

    أولئك تُتْلى ذكرُهم في المنابرِ

    For you are the youth, son of youth, father of youth

    Whose mention echoes from the pulpits

  27. ورئتَ العَلا والمجد والحلمَ والحِجَى

    وبذل العطايا مِن جدودٍ أكابرِ

    You have attained glory, honor, wisdom, and reverence

    And the bestowal of gifts from magnificent ancestors

  28. عممت جميعَ الخلق عدلا ورحمةً

    فأضحى مطيعا كل برٍّ وفاجرِ

    You have blanketed all people with justice and mercy

    So every righteous and corrupt soul bows before you

  29. وأضحى الذي أضْحى بربك كافرا

    مقرّاً بإسداءِ الندى غير كافرِ

    And those who rejected your Lord became

    Admitters to your goodness, no longer unbelievers

  30. ولا زلتُ أستقرى الخلائقَ كلهم

    فلم أرَ فيهم غير مثنٍ وشاكرِ

    And I have surveyed all of mankind

    Yet found none but thankful admirers

  31. فيا ابنَ الكرامِ الأولين تعطُّفاً

    لِذِى مقةٍ صافى المودةِ زائرِ

    So O son of the generous forefathers, show kindness

    To one whose sincere devotion visits you

  32. كساكَ من المدح اللبابِ ملاءةً

    بها تاهَ حتى قال هلْ من مُفاخرِ

    I have clothed you in the finest praise

    With which I have wandered until I said - can there be more boasting?

  33. تزيدُ على مرِّ الليالى تجدداً

    فلم يُبْلِها من صرفه المُتغَايرِ

    Increasing upon the nights, renewing

    Unfaded by the passage of changing time

  34. قوافٍ من الشعرِ الذى فاقَ نظمهُ

    بِطرسٍ بدتْ كاللؤلِؤ المُتنَاثِر

    Verses of poetry surpassing in their composition

    The pearls strewn by Taras upon the page

  35. أتَتْك تهادَى كالعرائس قُلدَتْ

    قلائدَ دُرٍّ في عقُودِ الجواهرِ

    They come to you gently like brides adorned

    With necklaces of pearls in jewel settings

  36. إذا أنشدتْ في محفلِ الجمعِ جهرةً

    تفتشُ عن مكنون سرِّ الضمائرِ

    When recited aloud in the gathering

    They seek out the hidden secrets of consciences

  37. فلو سمعتها الجاهليةُ قومنا

    أضلّت بأبصارٍ لهم وبصائرِ

    If only the ancients of our people could hear them

    They would lose both eyes and insight

  38. منزهةٌ تاهتْ على أخواتها

    بمعنى دقيقٍ في العبارةِ ظاهرِ

    Elevated, surpassing her peers

    In subtle meaning and clear expression

  39. فأنتَ لها كُفءٌ وفٍ فتملَّها

    وأظهرْ لها حسن القبول وبادرِ

    You are her equal, loyal - so accept her

    And show readiness and fine acceptance

  40. هي الجوهرُ الشفَّافُ لا يستحقُّها

    سِواكَ من الساداتِ يا ابنَ الأكابرِ

    She is the transparent pearl - none deserves her

    But you, of the great houses, O son of the magnificent

  41. وهبْتُكَها أرجو بها الفوزَ في غدٍ

    من اللَّه ربٍّ خالق الخلق غافرِ

    I have gifted her to you, hoping for salvation

    On the morrow from Allah, Creator of forgiveness

  42. ودمْ وابقَ محروسَ الجنابِ مظفراً

    وضدُّك معكوسُ المنى غيرُ ظافرِ

    Live on, protected in your noble line, triumphant

    While your opponent's wishes are inverted, without triumph

  43. وعشْ ما بدتْ شمسُ النهار وغردتْ

    حمائم في غصن من الأيكِ ناضرِ

    And live while the sun of days shines and the doves coo
