1. ما زلتُ في لهوٍ وفي طربٍ وفي

    عيشٍ رغيدٍ مَعْ سرورِ كاملِ

    I was still immersed in joy and ecstasy

    Living a life of pleasure and perfect bliss

  2. حتى إذا لاحَ المشيبُ بلّمتي

    قطعتْ حبالَ مودتي ووسائلِي

    Until the streaks of gray appeared in my hair

    Severing the cords of my affection and ties

  3. يا هذه إن تُنْصفي أو تَعْدِلي

    عن زورةِ المضنَى فلستُ بعادِلِ

    O you, if you would be just or fair

    Stop the injustice of distress

  4. إن تنكرِي شيبي فمنكِ حلولُه

    أو تُنكرِي جسمي فهجرُك قاتلِي

    If you deny my gray hair, it's from you it came

    Or if you deny my body, your abandonment killed me

  5. أعرضتِ حينَ بدَا بياضُ مفارقي

    عَنْ مذهبي وأطعتِ قولَ العاذِلِ

    You turned away when the whiteness of parting appeared

    From my ways, obeying the words of the blamer

  6. أنسيتِ عهداً قد مضى زَمنَ الصبي

    قضَّيتُه وعصيتُ فيكِ عواذلِي

    You forgot a past covenant now gone

    I fulfilled it and disobeyed those who blamed me for you

  7. إن تعذرِي فالعذرُ منك سجيةٌ

    ووِدادك النامِي كظلٍّ زائلِ

    If you make excuses, the excuse is your nature

    And your budding love is like a fleeting shadow

  8. قالتْ وما قرعَ العتابُ حصانها

    هيهاتَ لا يرجُو وصالَ مواصلِ

    She spoke and the reproach did not spur her steed

    Alas, one who is cut off does not hope for reunions

  9. صدَّتْ ولى دمعٌ يسيل كأنما

    أعداهُ فيضُ ندى الإمام العادلِ

    She turned away, tears flowing as if

    Poured forth from the Judge, the Just Imam's abundant grace

  10. أهلُ الممالكِ والفضائلِ والعلا

    ذى الفضل سلطان بن سيف الفاضلِ

    O people of kingdoms, merits, and knowledge

    The Excellent, Sultan bin Saif Al Fa'izel

  11. نسلُ الكرامِ الطيبين أولِى الندى

    والجودِ أهل مسائلِ وَوَسائِل

    The progeny of the good, the pure, foremost in bounty

    And generosity, people of requests and means

  12. فضلوا الورَى بمراتبٍ ومناصبٍ

    وطبائع محمودة وشمائلِ

    They excelled people in ranks and positions

    And praised natures, traits

  13. وخلائق غرٍّ حسانٍ وُضَّحٍ

    ومواهبِ منشورةِ وفواضلِ

    And manners of unveiled beauty and clarity

    And gifts spread and superior virtues

  14. لك يا ابن سيف سطوة لو صادمتْ

    جبلا لأصبح كالكثيبِ السائلِ

    For you, O Ibn Saif, is power that if it collided

    With a mountain, it would be in the morn like a flowing dune

  15. وضياء وجهٍ مشرق ذى رَوْنَق

    يُزْرِى على القمر المنيرِ الكاملِ

    And the brilliance of your radiant, graceful face

    Outshining the full luminous moon

  16. يا سائلي عَن جوده وسخائِه

    فندَاهُ يقصر عنه وصفُ القائِل

    O you who ask about his generosity and munificence

    Description falls short of it, it has no shore

  17. إن قلتُ كالغيثِ الملِثِّ بَخَسْتُه

    أو قلت كالبحر المحيط الشاملِ

    If I say like the pouring plentiful rain I diminish him

    Or say like the all-encompassing vast ocean I diminish him

  18. وبخسته إن قلتُ في الهيجاءِ والب

    أساءِ كالليثِ الهزبرِ الباسلِ

    And if I say in ferocity and courage

    Like the roaring, valiant lion I diminish him

  19. هو أولٌ هو آخرٌ في جودِه

    لا تحكه بأواخِر وأوائِل

    He is the first, he is the last in his generosity

    Do not limit him to ends and beginnings

  20. وضياءُ عدلِك ما لَه من جاحدٍ

    كخضمِّ جُودِك مَا له من سَاحلِ

    The brilliance of your justice has no denier

    Like the bounty of your munificence has no coast

  21. أمَّلْتُ فيكَ بأن تسد خَصاصتي

    ولديك ليس يخيبُ سَعْىُ الآملِ

    I hoped in you to fill my deficiencies

    For you, the hopeful's endeavor is not wasted

  22. وعملت فيك معانياً منظومةً

    ولديكَ ليس يضيعُ أجرُ العاملِ

    And I composed meanings in verse for you

    For you, the worker's reward is not lost

  23. من معشرٍ لا شىء أقبحَ عندهم

    من قطع ذِى القُربى وردّ السائِل

    Of a people, nothing uglier to them

    Than cutting off kin and rejecting the questioner

  24. طلعتْ شموسُ الحق من أرجائكم

    وبِعْدَلِكم أفلَتْ نجومُ الباطلِ

    The suns of truth rose up from your horizons

    By your justice the stars of falsehood vanished

  25. كلٌّ أقَرَّ بعدْلِكم ونوالِكم

    من ذا الورى من عالمٍ أو جاهلِ

    All acknowledged, by your justice and bestowal

    Of humankind, the scholar or the ignorant

  26. فلأشكرنَّ جَدَا يديك لأنه

    يأتي إلىّ بسرعةٍ في العاجِلِ

    So I will greatly thank your benevolence

    For it comes to me swiftly when urgent

  27. وليهْن عيدُ الفطر إنك عيدُه

    وليهن عيدٌ غيرُه من قابِل

    And may the Feast of Fast-Breaking be joyous for you are its feast

    And may any other feast be joyous after it

  28. واخلد وعش واسلم ودم وما غردتْ

    وُرْق الحمائم فوقَ غُصن مائِل

    Relax and feast and greet peace, blood, and what warbled

    The crooning doves above the leaning branch

  29. أو حَن مشتاقٌ إلى أوطانِه

    أو لاحَ برْق في غمامٍ هاطلِ

    Or a longing one returned to his homelands

    Or lightning flashed in pouring clouds
