1. يا هَلْ شجتْكَ برودُ الرِّيق حَوَّاءُ

    ممشوقَةٌ غادَةٌ غرَّاءُ عذراءُ

    O one whose cool saliva has enchanted,

    A smooth, soft, tender, pure maiden,

  2. وهْنانةٌ بَضَّةٌ رَقراقةٌ فُنُقٌ

    بَهنَانةٌ كاعِبٌ بلْهاءُ غيداءُ

    Delicate, gentle, supple, graceful,

    Coy, shy, white, radiant,

  3. خَمصانةٌ وَهَضِيمُ الكَشْح راغدةٌ

    هَرْكُولَةٌ غَضَّةٌ قَنْواءُ هيفَاءُ

    Bashful, plump, sleek, slender,

    Willowy, tender, delicate, shapely,

  4. غريرةٌ طَفْلةٌ بيضاء عَبْهَرةٌ

    زَهْراء عبقَرَةٌ ظمياء حَسْناءُ

    Flirtatious, white child, fragrant,

    Radiant, sweetly scented, beautiful, lovely,

  5. غريرةٌ ناهِدٌ حَسناءُ بَهْكَنَةٌ

    خريدةٌ فاركٌ لفّاءُ دَرْماءُ

    Flirtatious, sleepy, pretty, coquettish,

    Agile, nimble, playful, supple,

  6. ممكورةٌ عاجرٌ وَرْكاءُ رَهْرهةٌ

    مسحورةٌ وحَصان الطبع زهراءُ

    Curvaceous, bare, white, quivering,

    Bewitching, pure in nature, radiant,

  7. مومومَةٌ ورشوف برَّاقِ مَبْسَمها

    معشوقةٌ وأَنُوفُ الأنْفِ قَنْوَاءُ

    Infatuated, with a smiling dimple,

    Beloved, with a supple nose, shapely,

  8. بِكرٌ عَرُوبٌ عيوب ما بها قَذَرٌ

    ربَحْلَةٌ غَضَّةٌ قَبَّاءُ حوراءُ

    Chaste, honorable, no baseness in her,

    Speedy, tender, passionate, nymph-like,

  9. رَجراجةٌ ورداحٌ غير حنكلةٍ

    مُعَلّكٌ فرعُها عذراءُ بَلْهاءُ

    Tremulous, rosy, not uncouth,

    Her branch flexes, tender, pure, radiant,

  10. خَرعوبةٌ وأَناةٌ لا يُدَنِّسُها

    لَوْمٌ شَموعٌ بجمالُ الخلق أدماءُ

    Shy, gentle, untouched by blame,

    Candles in beauty of form, rosy cheeks,

  11. خودٌ رداحٌ هدىٌّ طفلة فَتَنَتْ

    عقلى فلم يَحْلُ لي عيشٌ ولا ماءُ

    Self-willed, rosy, a guiding light, she captivated me

    So I cannot live or drink water,

  12. سكْرَى نوارٌ عزوفٌ عَزَّ مطلبها

    بخيلةٌ باهِرٌ جَمالها لعساءُ

    Intoxicated with light, aloof, her desire is miserly,

    Stingy, shining, her beauty brings misery,

  13. بِكْرٌ بكيتٌ على تَعْرِيقها سنةٌ

    هي الدَّواءُ ولكن هجرها داءُ

    Chaste, I cried over her aloofness for a year,

    She's the cure but to shun her is sickness,

  14. لا غرو إن لم يُر لي بعد رؤيتها

    في القلب صادٌ ولا باءٌ ولا راءُ

    No wonder, since after seeing her

    My heart had neither letter saad nor baa nor raa,

  15. خُوطيَّةُ القدِّ إن سلت غلائلها

    عن جسمها فَلَها في الليل لأْلاءُ

    Slender waist, if her tresses are unleashed

    Over her body they are waves in the night,

  16. معسولةُ الريق مصقولٌ عوارضها

    كأنما ريقها شَهدٌ وصهباءُ

    Honey-lipped, polished her cheeks

    As if her saliva is honey and pure white,

  17. تميلُ تيهاً كغُصْنٍ ناعم خَضِلٍ

    فتانةُ الطرفِ سكرى اللحظ نجلاءُ

    She sways drunkenly like a delicate branch

    Charming of glance, intoxicated of look, soft,

  18. وشقوتي أن برَت جسمي بجفوتها

    وهجرها ما لها في الدهر إرضاءُ

    My misery is that her aloofness emaciated me

    And to shun her has no appeasement in this life,

  19. ملولةٌ ما لها عهدٌ يدوم لها

    يوماً وليس لها عهدٌ وإيفاءُ

    Capricious, no lasting covenant with her

    A day, no fidelity or keeping promises,

  20. تكادُ من لينها تجرى إذا قعدت

    كأنما جسمها من لِينهِ الماءُ

    So soft she seems to flow if she sits

    As if her body is made of soft water,

  21. بيضاء ريانةٌ من حسن صورتها

    قد اعترَى بعدها قلبي سويداءُ

    White, delighted with the beauty of her form

    After her my heart is clad in black,

  22. تكاملَ الحسنُ في أوصافها فَزَهَتْ

    كأنها روضةٌ في الحُسن غَنَّاءُ

    Perfection of beauty resides in her qualities

    She blossomed like a garden full of melody,

  23. أضراسُها لؤلؤٌ والدُّرُّ منطقها

    ووجهها قمرٌ والقدُّ سمراءُ

    Her teeth are pearls and her necklace pearls

    Her face a moon and her waist slender,

  24. تاهَتْ على التيه من حسن يتيهُ بها

    ما لاق إلا بها مدحٌ وإطراءُ

    She got lost in infatuation from the beauty that intoxicates her

    None but her is praised and flattered,

  25. صدَّت ولي كبدٌ حَرَّى تذوب حَوىً

    ودمْعَةٌ كرذاذ المُزْن حمراءُ

    She rejected me and so my liver dissolved with passion

    And tears flowed like rain showers,

  26. عَلَّ الهُمامَ أبا الهيجاءِ ينجدُني

    إذا اعتراني من الأيام لأوراءُ

    May the protector of the desolate, Abu Al-Hayja' aid me

    When the days oppress me with their calamities,

  27. أيقنتُ أن ابن سلطانَ الإمام لنا

    بحرٌ طمَا ولأهل الأرض أَنواءُ

    I'm certain the son of the Sultan, the Imam, is for us

    A copious sea, and for the people alternations,

  28. يا من إذا ما التقى الجمعان ليثُ شَرىً

    ومن تمثَّلَ للأخلاق ما شاءوا

    O you who, when the two armies meet, are a voracious lion

    And you present to morals whatever you wish,

  29. ومَنْ تهلَّلَ للعافينَ منظرُهُ

    ومَنْ نداهُ حيّاً والكفُّ دَأْماءُ

    O you who smiles gently at the weak

    While your palm is bloody,

  30. ومَن يحُورُ على الأموال وهْو أخو

    عَذلٍ كأنُ صميم المالِ أعداءُ

    O you who is stingy with wealth yet is brother

    To reproach, as if the essence of wealth is enemies,

  31. ومَن إذا اشتدتِ الآراءُ خُلّصُها

    رأْىٌ له كَشَبَا الهندىِّ إمضاءُ

    O you who when views conflict, resolves them

    With an opinion like Indian steel in decisiveness,

  32. ومَن إذا عَصَفَتْ أيدي الزَّمان بنا

    بجوره فله جودٌ وإعطاءُ

    And when the hands of time treat us unjustly

    You have generosity and giving,

  33. ومَنْ إذا اشتدَّتْ الهيجاءُ في رَهَج

    تجرى به في بحار الموتِ جرداءُ

    And when wars rage fiercely in turmoil

    You surge in the seas of death undraped,

  34. موتٌ ترى الموتَ ينْبُو من مخافته

    مَلْكٌ له هِمَّةٌ في الملكِ قَعساءُ

    A death that death itself flees in fear of you

    A king whom ambition in kingship wearies,

  35. تَراهُ جَذْلانَ في الشُّجعان قَسْوَرَةٌ

    ووجْهُهُ في لأَلاءٌ وأضواءُ

    You see him formidable among the valiant, a stallion

    His face illuminated and radiant,

  36. يُصَرِّفُ الأمر ما شاءَتْ إرادته

    ومُقْلَةُ الدَّهر عن حاليْه عمياءُ

    He maneuvers the affairs however he wills

    While the orbit of time is blind to its states,

  37. شهمُ الجَنانِ شجاعٌ لا يُؤْثَّرُ في

    سيما مُحيَّاهُ سَرَّاءٌ وضَرَّاءُ

    Brave lion of the gardens, peerless in

    Signs, his life in ease and hardship the same,

  38. أصلٌ ترعرعَ من جُرثومةٍ شمختْ

    فخرا على هامَةِ الجَوْزاءِ علْياءُ

    A lineage nurtured from a stock that towered

    Proudly over the summit of glorious heights,

  39. يا مَنْ غدا كاسمِهِ يُدْعَى فإن له

    بِلا امْتِرَاءِ جميعَ الخلق أبناءُ

    O you who is called like your name, for you

    Without contention all people are sons!
