1. بيضاءُ واضحةُ الترائبِ غادة

    إن شُبْهَتْ ظُلِمَتْ ببَدْرِ تمَامِ

    White, conspicuous lineage, Ghadha

    If likened, she becomes dark with the full moon

  2. سمع الخيالُ بها فخلتُ جبينها

    شمساً تلأُلأُ تحتَ جُنحِ ظلامِ

    The imagination heard her, so her forehead became empty

    A glittering sun under the wings of darkness

  3. باتتْ تبثُّ لي العتابَ مودةً

    وتدبرُ من فيها كؤوسَ مُدَامِ

    She started sending me regret affectionately

    And thinking about the cups of wine in it

  4. وتقولُ لي هلاّ تريدُ سُلافةً

    تشفى من البُرحَاء والآلامِ

    And she says to me, why don't you want enjoyment

    That heals loneliness and pain

  5. فأجبتها ألاّ أريدُ مُحرَّماً

    حاشا لِمْثلِى لارْتكاب حرَامِ

    So I answered her, I do not want the unlawful

    It’s inconceivable for the likes of me to commit sins

  6. لما رأتْني والعفافَ فكفكفتْ

    عبراتِ عيني عروةَ بْن حِزامِ

    When she saw me and chastity, she held back

    The tears of my eyes, the reins of Urwah bin Hizam

  7. أُلْفى فلست من الذين إذا خلوا

    بخريدةٍ سَحَبُوا ذيولَ أَثَامِ

    I was tested but I am not one of those who if alone

    With a flirt pulls the tails of sins

  8. وخرائدٌ قد زرنَني فوجدْنَني

    متنزهاً في يَقْظَتِي ومَنَامِي

    And flirts have visited me but found me

    Chaste in my vigilance and sleep

  9. فكأنّني مستعلمٌ من عفّةِ

    الملكِ الأشم السيد القَمْقَامِ

    It’s as if I learned chastity from the character

    Of the most high, most righteous, most just king

  10. ذِى الفضلِ سلطانِ بن سيفِ الندَى

    الزاكِي المكرَّمِ في مَدَى الأيَّامِ

    The owner of grace, authority Sultan bin Saif Al-Nada

    The pure, generous, honored for ages

  11. اليعربيِّ الشمرى المرتضَى

    وذِى الدِّينِ والإيمانِ والإسلامِ

    The courageous, content, chosen Al-Ya'arubi Ash-Shammari

    And the religious, faithful, and Muslim

  12. الباسلِ العدلِ السرىّ الماجدِ

    اللبقِ الأبىِّ الهزبرىِّ السَّامي

    The valiant, just, hidden, glorious

    Fine, dignified, eminent, exalted

  13. تتقاصرُ الأملاكُ عنه هيبةً

    وترى بلا هربٍ ولا إقْدَامِ

    The rulers fall short before him in awe

    And see without escape or daring

  14. وتودُّ ترشفُ نعلهُ وبساطهُ

    فتظلُّ واقفةً على الإقْدَامِ

    And wish to sip his slipper and his rug

    Thus remaining standing in daring

  15. ملك يجدِّلُ مَنْ يشاءُ بسيفهِ

    الماضي وينبُو عنه كل حُسَامِ

    A king who clothes whoever he wants with his sword

    And strips him of all sharp swords

  16. لو يكتِفي بالذِّهْنِ في رَهَجِ الوَغَى

    لكفاهُ مِنْ قتل عَنِ الصَّمصَامِ

    If he was satisfied with the mind in the tumult of war

    It would suffice him from killing with cold steel

  17. ربُّ السماحةِ والفصاحةِ والحجا

    والخيرِ والأسنَى أبو الأيتَامِ

    The Lord of generosity, eloquence, logic

    And good, help, and orphans

  18. لولاهُ ما علم امرؤٌ كيفَ الجدَى

    والطعن في الأحشَا وضرب الهَامِ

    Without him, no man would know the path of glory

    And stabbing the ignorant and striking resolutely

  19. إنْ حلَّ حلَّ النهبُ في أموالهِ

    أو سارَ حلَّ القتلُ في الأجْسَامِ

    If looting befell his money

    Or killing happened to bodies

  20. إن جئتَه تعرُو فلا تظهرْ لهُ

    يُعْطيك مبتئاً بغير كلامِ

    If you come to him naked he will not show you

    He gives you shyly without words

  21. إنْ قلتَ كالبحرِ المحيطِ ظلمته

    في جُودِه أو قلتَ وَبل غمَامِ

    If you said he is like the endless sea in his generosity

    Or you said like the clouds' rain

  22. حَاشَا ابن سيفٍ أن يضاهى بالورَى

    أو أنْ يشاكلَه كريمُ كرامِ

    It is inconceivable that the son of Saif be equaled to mankind

    Or that the noble of nobles match him

  23. هو أولٌ هو آخرٌ في نضله

    هو سابغ الآلاء والإنْعَامِ

    He is the first, he is the last, in his glory

    He is perfect in grace and gifts

  24. هو كعبةُ الأربابِ طرًّا مالهُ

    مِنْ مُشْبه في أعصرِ الأعْوَامِ

    He is the Kaaba of lords, unique is his wealth

    With no equal in eras

  25. يا محيَ الكرم الكثير بمالهِ

    بَلْ مُهلك الأعداء والإعدامِ

    O reviver of bounty, abundant with his money

    Rather destroyer of enemies and executions

  26. يا من تفرَّد بالشجاعةِ واللُّهى

    يا مَنْ أمات عبادة الأصنامِ

    O you who excelled in courage and inspiration

    O you who abolished idol worship

  27. يا من إذا اشتدَّ الوغَى وطغى الرّدَى

    يلقى الجيوشَ بواضحٍ بسَّامِ

    O you, if chaos intensified and corruption spread

    Meets armies with swords that cut and stab

  28. إنِّي دعوتك فاستجبْ لِي دعوتي

    يا غايةَ الإجْلال والإعْظامِ

    I called upon you so answer my call

    O epitome of reverence and esteem

  29. أمطرْ علىَّ سحائبا من فضةٍ

    من أنمل مثلَ البحارِ هَوَامِي

    Rain upon me clouds of silver

    From the bats of seas roaring waves

  30. أقسمت لم ترددْ فقيرا خائبا

    وترد في الهيجاءِ كلَّ لُهَامِ

    I swore you never turned away a destitute disappointed

    And return in confusion every deluded one

  31. وغدوتَ تصغى للوفودِ مَسامِعاً

    وتصمها عن طاعة اللُّوَّامِ

    You listen to delegations attentively

    And deafen them from obeying blamers

  32. من مَعشَرِ سَادُوا البريَّة كلَّهم

    أنتَ الهُمَامِ وكَهْفُ كلُّ همامِ

    Of the people who ruled the land altogether

    You are the praised and refuge of every praised one

  33. أقصرْ لقدْ جاوزت حدَّ المنتهَى

    في الجودِ والبأساءِ والإكرَامِ

    I have fallen short, for you have exceeded the ultimate

    In generosity, valor, and honor

  34. إني نثرتُ عليكَ دُر قلائِد

    تزرى بكلِّ لآلىءِ ونظامِ

    I have scattered upon you a necklace of pearls

    Adorned with every jewel and grace

  35. خُذْها مبرأةً من التدليس والألح

    انِ فهْي أتتْ لخير إمامِ

    Take them acquitted of fraud and importunity

    For they came to the best imam

  36. وحكتْ فريضَ البحتري سلاسةً

    وابن الحسين الفذَّ في الإحكامِ

    And narrated smoothly the duty of Al-Buhturi

    And Ibn Al-Husayn the brilliant in judgments

  37. كِلا معانيها وجودة لفظِها

    من شعِر ذِي المعنى أبي تمّامِ

    Both its meaning and the beauty of its composition

    Is poetry of meaning, Abu Tammam

  38. فليهْن هذا الدهرُ أنك خالدٌ

    يا كعبةَ الأمراءِ والحكامِ

    So let this age be disgraced that you are eternal

    O Kaaba of commanders and rulers

  39. فعليكَ طولَ الدهرُ رحمة ربِّنا

    وعليكَ ألفُ تحيةٍ وسَلامِ

    Upon you is the eternity of this life, the mercy of our Lord

    And upon you a thousand greetings and peace
