سلامٌ وتسليم وألفُ مَسَرَّةٍ

أخصّ به الزاكي المسدد سَالِما

Greetings of peace and salutations, a thousand joys

I dedicate especially to the virtuous, well-guided Salim

سليلَ خميس بن الصفىّ مباركٍ

بحيث لنا قد صارَ خِلاَّ مسالمَا

Descendant of the blessed Khamis bin as-Sufi

With whom we have become intimate friends

عليك سلامى كلَّ حينٍ وساعةٍ

مُداماً كفى فقد الأليف حمَائِمَا

My greetings of peace be upon you at all times

Continuously sufficient - for intimacy has doves

أعرْنَاك يا ذا الودّ سبعَ قصائِد

وسافرتَ أزماناً وقد جئت سَالمَا

We have presented you, O beloved friend, seven poems

And you travelled for a time and returned in peace

فمن فضِلك الأسنى فجُودوا لنا بها

سريعاً كما نُسْدِى إليك مكارِمَا

So generously grant us, out of your excellence

Quickly, as we aspire to your noble traits

فديتك خلّصها فهذا رسولُنا

خميسُ المصافِي قد أتاكَ مُعَالِمَا

I ransom you - complete them, for here is our messenger

Khamis al-Musafi has come to you as a guide

فسلِّم له عاريّةً مستردةً

وأنْتَ برئٌ قد كفيتَ اللوائِمَا

So convey to him, on loan to be returned

While you are innocent, having averted blamers

وحَاشَاكَ بل حاشاك يرجع خَائِبا

فإنكَ قد صرت النديمَ المُنادِمَا

Far be it from you! Never would you return disappointed

For you have become an intimate, cherished companion

إذا شئتَ منّا حاجةً فهْيَ تنقِضي

بإذنِ إله صارَ بالأمر قائِمَا

If you want anything from us, it will be fulfilled

By the will of God, who has power over affairs

نخصك بالتسليمِ نجلٌ مباركٌ

سلاماً وتسليما مدىً مُتقَاربَا

We convey special greetings, a blessed son

Greetings of peace, for a lasting affinity

ودونَكها من مُعْولىٍّ هديةً

تسرُّك بل تُسْدِى إليك مَغَانمَا

And below we have sent you a gift

That will delight you, and we aspire to your gains

تسلى قلوبَ العاشقين كأنها

حبيب إلى أهليه قد صار قَادِمَا

It will comfort the hearts of lovers as if

A beloved has arrived to his family

تُسَهِّد أجفانَ الكرى بفراقِها

كأنها بالوصلِ تُوقِظُ قائمَا

It will rest the eyelids of those suffering from separation

As if with union it were awakening a sleeper

قوافٍ لهن اللؤلؤُ الرطبُ خادمٌ

كما صِرْتُ للزاكي ابن سُلطانَ خادمَا

It serves them - fresh pearls - like how

I serve the virtuous son of the Sultan

وصلِّ إلِهي كلَّ حينٍ وساعةٍ

علَى أحمَدٍ أزكى الأنَامِ مَكارمَا

O my God, bless Ahmad, the most noble of mankind
