1. بموتِ المرتضى الواكي الرضى

    تألمَّ كل مستورٍ ولِىّ

    With the death of Al-Murtada, the pleased became sorrowful

    Every close friend and loyal companion was pained

  2. وأصبحَ كلُّ ذي دين وعقلِ

    من الثقلين في عيشٍ وبِىّ

    And every person of religion and intellect

    Became afflicted with sadness and sorrow

  3. وأكمد كل ذي علمِ وحلمِ

    وكدّر كل محبوب شهىّ

    And every person of knowledge and forbearance grew dim

    And every beloved, radiant one was saddened

  4. وأظلمت المدائنُ والنواحي

    بموتِ العالمِ البرِّ الوفِىّ

    The cities and towns were darkened

    With the death of the righteous, dutiful scholar

  5. وكادتْ من أماكنها الرَّواسي

    تخرّ على الدَّكادِك والقُلىّ

    The foundations were nearly shaken

    From their places, and every living being was stricken

  6. وكادتْ ترجفُ الأرضون طرَّا

    بمن فيها ويصعق كلُّ حيّ

    The earth nearly quaked violently

    And the moon nearly eclipsed, with the stars scattering

  7. وكادَ البدرُ يخسف والدرارى

    تناثرُ قبلَ خسرانِ الشقىّ

    With the death of the eminent Sayyid

    The blessed, prosperous Al-Zamil

  8. بموتِ السيد السامي المسمّى

    بصالِح السعيد الزاملىّ

    With the death of the ransomed scholar

    The honorable, learned trustee

  9. بموتِ العالمِ المفدَّى

    الأبىِّ العالم العلم الولىِّ

    My brother of nobility, aid, and glory

    Ally of generosity, of excellent opinion

  10. أخِي العلياء واليد والمعالي

    حليفِ الجود ذِى الرأى الجِلىّ

    On Saturday morning, of Rabi' al-awwal

    The pure-hearted pious one passed away

  11. بيومِ السبت صبحاً من ربيعٍ

    توفِّى طاهرُ الجيبِ التقىّ

    A thousand and three hundred years had passed

    From the gone by ages

  12. وألف مع ثلاث قد تقضتْ

    مع السبعين عُدَّت في المضِىّ

    So it is no wonder if my eyelids

    Shed blood after losing the pious one

  13. فلا عجبٌ إذا فاضتْ جُفوني

    دماً من بعد فقدانِ التقىِّ

    Nor is it shameful if we die of sorrow

    For the immaculate, chosen one

  14. ولا عارٌ إذا ما مُت همَا

    وأجزانا على الصَّافِي الصفِىّ

    O you who were dear in the wilderness

    With a good and luxurious life

  15. فيا لَك من عزيز في البرايا

    بعيشٍ طيبٍ رغد هنِىّ

    You were honored, O you of sublime traits

    Among the people, with ancient knowledge

  16. وكنت مَكرّماً يا ذا السجايا

    مع الأقوامِ بالعلم السنِىّ

    You were noble, O you of lofty qualities

    Among the people, with splendid light

  17. وكنت مشرّفاً يا ذَا المزَايا

    مع الأقوامِ بالنورِ البَهِىْ

    Yet now your virtuous self lies buried

    In a remote, dark, and hidden grave

  18. فأمسى شخصُك الزاكي دفيناً

    بقفرٍ طامسٍ خالٍ خفىّ

    Your radiant image has vanished from us

    And none can be seen but your memory remains

  19. توارى شَخصك المانوسُ عنا

    ولم يُرَ غير ذكرك في النَّدِىّ

    O sea that resides in the belly of a desert!

    May your Lord's prayers be upon you, O pious one

  20. أيا بحراً ثوَى في بطنِ قفرٍ

    عليك صلاة ربك مِنْ تِقىّ

    Your tragedy has indeed afflicted all the wilderness

    High and low alike

  21. لقد عمت مصيبُتك البرايا

    جميعاً مِن شريفٍ أو دنِىّ

    And orphaned the near and far

    Commoners and elites alike

  22. وأيتمت الأدانى والأقاصِى

    جميعاً من وضيعٍ أو عَلِىّ

    You saddened all people, citizens and subjects

    With your death, young and old

  23. وأحزنتَ الأنامَ من الرعايا

    بموتك من كبيرِ أو صَبِيّ

    You bequeathed grief to all creation

    With the death of the weak and the wealthy

  24. وأرثت الخلائقَ كلَّ حزن

    بموت من نقيرٍ أو غنِيّ

    You made all people drink cups of sorrow

    With your death, eloquent and mute alike

  25. وأسقيت الورَى كاسَاتِ حُزنٍ

    بموتك من فصيحٍ أو عَيِىّ

    You possessed honor and possessed knowledge

    And enlightened both worlds with your excellent conduct

  26. حويت تكرماً وحويتَ علماً

    وطلتَ العالمين بحسنِ زِيّ

    You grasped knowledge along with insight and forbearance

    And an astute, pure, and clear intellect

  27. وحزت العلم مَع فهم وحلم

    وعقلٍ راجحٍ صافٍ جلىّ

    You taught all tongues the sacred law

    And saved people from all wrongdoing

  28. وعلَّمتَ الشرائعَ كلَّ لَسن

    وأنقذتَ الورَى من كلِّ عيّ

    So which people, near and far

    Are not mournful and anguished by your death?

  29. فأيُّ الناس من قاصٍ ودانٍ

    بموتك غير محزونٍ شَجِىْ

    And who has not been touched with worry and sorrow

    By your death, lost and confused?

  30. ومن لم يُمسِ في همٍّ وغمٍّ

    بموتك غير منبوذٍ غَوِىّ

    So may your grave be well-watered, O Nuzwá

    By the morning and evening rains

  31. فعلَّ ثراك يا قبراً بِنَزْوَى

    غَوادٍ بالغداةِ وبالعشِىّ

    O how you were afflicted with a wound that no one

    Could have dressed, had it not been for Ibn Sayf Al-Ya‘rubi

  32. فيا لك ثلمةً ما سُدَّ بابٌ

    لها لولا ابن سيف اليَعْرُبِيّ

    He is Sultan, son of Sayf

    The progeny of the wise and prudent king

  33. هُو السلطانُ سلطانُ بن سيفِ

    سلالةُ مالكِ الفطن الكَيّ

    A just, righteous, and vigilant Imam

    Who acted with loyalty, righteousness and vigilance

  34. إمامٌ عادلٌ بَرٌّ حَفىّ

    فأحسنْ بالوفَا البرّ الحَفِىّ

    God has indeed blessed us through him

    And chosen him, my honorable father

  35. لقد منَّ الإله به علينا

    وصفوته أبي العربِ الأبىّ

    He has spread goodness and generosity among the people

    And given them life after death

  36. لقدْ عمَّ الأنامَ جدىً وجوداً

    وأسقاهُم حياً مِنْ بعد رِىً

    And saved them all from tribulation

    And cleansed their honor from all disgrace

  37. وأنقذهم من البَلْوَى جميعاً

    وطهّر عِرْضَهُم من كلِّ غَيّ

    And may God, my Lord, at all times

    Bless the best of creation, the choicest

  38. وصلّى اللهُ ربي كلَّ حينٍ

    على خيرِ البرية من قُصَىّ

    Bless the best of creation, from progeny
