1. هل تحت ليلك بالغضا من رائدِ

    يقتاف آثارَ الصباحِ الشاردِ

    A garden beneath your night, does it have a visitor

    Seeking out traces of the fleeting dawn?

  2. هيهات تلك نَشيدةٌ ممطولةٌ

    عند الغرام على المحبِّ الناشدِ

    Alas! That is an elaborate song

    About the lover pleading with the singer

  3. وكفاك عجزاً من شجيٍّ ساهرٍ

    يرجُو الرِّفادةَ من خليٍّ راقدِ

    Leave off your weakness, o sleepless lover

    Hoping for companionship from a sleeping friend

  4. يا إِخوةَ الرجلِ الغنيِّ أصابَ ما

    يبغِي وأعداءَ المُقلِّ الفاقدِ

    O brethren! The rich man gets what he wants

    While the poor man loses what he had

  5. صاحبتُ بعدكم النجومَ فكلُّكم

    إِلبٌ عليّ وكلهن مساعدي

    After you, I kept the stars company, but you all

    Abandoned me while they helped me

  6. فإذا ركدن فمن تحيُّرِ أدمعي

    وإذا خفقن فمن نُبُوِّ وسائدي

    When they grew still, it was from my confused tears

    When they twinkled, it was my sighing, my pillow

  7. دُلُّوا عليَّ النومَ إن طريقَهُ

    مسدودةٌ بعواذلي وعوائدي

    Show me the way to sleep - the road to it

    Is blocked by my principles and habits

  8. وعلى الثنيَّةِ باللوى متطلِّعٌ

    طِلْعِي بمَربأة الرقيب الراصدِ

    On the hillside, a watcher is looking out intensely

    My intense look seeking the watchman

  9. يَقِظٌ إذا خاف الرقيبَ تخطَّأتْ

    عيناه عن قلبٍ مُريدٍ عامدِ

    Awake, fearing the watcher, his eyes wandered

    From a willful, intent heart

  10. متجاهلٌ ما حالُ قلبي بعدَه

    جهلَ العليم وغائبٌ كالشاهدِ

    Oblivious of my heart's state after him

    The knower's ignorance - the witness who is absent

  11. وإلى جَنوب البانِ كلّ مُضِرَّةٍ

    بالبان بين موائسٍ وموائدِ

    To the south, all beauties

    Walk with the gait of wild cows

  12. يمشين مشي مَها الجِواءِ تخلَّلتْ

    عنهنّ غيطانَ النقا المتقاودِ

    Having slipped their veils, braided with speckles

    Not bearing the weight of necklaces

  13. متقلداتٍ بالعيون صلائفاً

    وطُلىً ولم يَحمِلنَ ثِقلَ قلائدِ

    They captivated with their magic

    Yet their schemes surpassed mine

  14. نافثتهنّ السحرَ يوم سويقةٍ

    فإذا مَكايدهنّ فوق مَكايدي

    I was the prey, schemed against,

    Unaware that pregnancy muddles the hunter’s mind

  15. كنتُ القنيصَ بما نصبتُ ولم أخلْ

    أن الحبالة عُقلةٌ للصائدِ

    I denied my dream the day the reasonable one shone

    And knew it the day we met with swords drawn

  16. أنكرتُ حلمي يومَ بُرقَةِ عاقلٍ

    وعرفتُه يوم اللقاءِ بغامدِ

    I made my hearing the target

    Of the arrows of deceit from every bow pulled taut

  17. وجعلتُ سمعي من نبال عواذلي

    غرضَ الغرورِ لكلِّ سهم قاصدِ

    Your heart is my heart, so go where passion led

    With every stray guide or rightly-guided one

  18. القلبُ قلبُكَ فامض حيث مضى الهوى

    بك من مضلٍّ سعيُهُ أو راشدِ

    As long as beauty invites you, o youth

    As long as the tresses are in the scabbard

  19. ما دام يدعوك الحسانُ فتىً وما

    دام الذوائبُ في قِرابِ الغامدِ

    Beyond your day is a tomorrow’s dawn

    With a promise that will disappoint the promiser

  20. فوَراء يومك من صِباك ضُحَى غدٍ

    وعدٌ يسوءُك منه صدقُ الواعدِ

    You roamed its night and morning rays

    Ablaze, in flames leaping high

  21. ولقد سريتَ بليلهِ وبصبحهِ

    فَحَماً وفي لَهَبِ البياض الواقدِ

    As grey hair with radiance is confusion

    And youth is akin to the straying guide

  22. فإذا المشيبُ مع الإضاءة حيرةٌ

    وإذا الشبابُ أخو المضلّ الواجدِ

    A fleet-footed mount scornful of its rider

    Or leader, walking with head held high

  23. ومطيّةٍ للّهوِ عزَّ فَقارُها

    وصليفُها عن راكبٍ أو قائدِ

    As if protected by its saddle from its bumpy path's stones

    Hump-backed, incomplete, with extra parts

  24. مما احتمَى من رحله بِقماصهِ

    ومن الخِشاش بأنفهِ المتصايدِ

    It travels part of the way haughtily restrained

    Then descends into stagnant hollows

  25. أعيا على ركب الصَّبا أن يظفروا

    بمَغالقٍ من غَرْزِها ومَعاقد

    Hovering, without having touched the ground

    Neither smoothly nor with a regular gait

  26. قد رُضْتُها فركبتُ منها طَيِّعاً

    ينصاعُ بين مَراسني ومَقاودي

    The riders suffer thirst on it while it swims

    In deep waters, its currents chaotic

  27. وأخٍ رفعتُ له بحيَّ على السُّرى

    والنجمُ يسبحُ في غديرٍ راكدِ

    Ugly - if my imagination pictured such as it

    My eyes would not close in sleep

  28. فوعى فهبّ يحلّ خيط جفونه

    بالكُرهِ من كفّ النعاس العاقد

    Convey - I wish my words would pour from my lips

    And reach my absent witness

  29. غيران قام على الخِطار مساعداً

    نصرَ الحسامِ رفدتهُ بالساعدِ

    Or would that my heart be deaf like yours

    In ribs blocking out all sound

  30. حتى رجمتُ الليلَ منه بكوكبٍ

    فتقَ الدجَى وأضاء وجهَ مَقاصدي

    So I could plunge into a sea of thickness and turmoil

    And end up in the clear, cool sea

  31. فرديْنِ سَومَ الفرقدين تمايلاً

    مستأمنيْن على طريق واحدِ

    Say, if you reach Nasir al-Din, listen

    To a plea that joins each scattered stream

  32. ومحجَّبٍ تدع الفرائصَ هيبةً

    أبوابُه من خافقٍ أو راعدِ

    O best of those whose hips fine steeds carried

    Or whose beds’ pillows leaned on in kingship

  33. تتسابقُ الجَبَهاتُ دون سريرِهِ

    للفوزِ بين معفِّر أو ساجدِ

    Zealously wearing the soft banner upon his forehead

    Crowning, fastening the crown

  34. لا تطمعُ الأقدارُ لي استنزاله

    بضعائفٍ منها ولا بجلائدِ

    I am your servant whose gifts, when granted,

    No gift has been tied to any ungrateful one

  35. أذِنَتْ عليه وسائلي وترفَّعتْ

    أستارُه لمَقاصدي وقصائدي

    You have made me needless of every despicable

    Low soul, dejected face

  36. وبعثتُ غُرَّ قلائدي ففتحنَ لي

    أبوابَه فكأنهنّ مَقالدي

    You lifted the heavy weight of woes

    I carried from repeated disasters

  37. كعمانَ أو مَلِكٍ عُمانٌ دارُهُ

    ثاني النوالِ على المَدى المتباعدِ

    When fate delighted in tormenting me, indeed!

    You set right for me fate's corruption

  38. رانٍ عليّ على ارتفاع سمائه

    بَرٍّ بوفدِ مدائحي ومَحامدي

    Honoring and favoring me, you guarded in me

    What my ancient poems and anthems recalled

  39. بعثتْ بصيرتُه نَفَاقي عندَهُ

    والشعرُ يُبْضَعُ في أوانٍ كاسدِ

    Failings - had the enemies sought refuge in the likes of them

    They would have tied with them the best pacts with you

  40. وقضَى على أني الوحيدُ بعلمهِ

    فكفَى بذلك أنه من شاهدي

    And who is granted sanctuary but you for one whose gaze

    Wanders far, place remote?

  41. سبق الملوكَ فبذَّهم متمهلاً

    جاروا ومرَّ على الطريق القاصدِ

    You remembered him as his steps retreated from you

    In the great intoxication of sovereignty

  42. ومضَى على غُلوَائهِ متسنِّماً

    لم تَرتفِقْ مَسعاتُه بمُعاضدِ

    Neither multitudes thronging him nor attendants

    saved him from death's grip

  43. طيّان لم يقضِ البوازلَ قبلَه

    جَذَعٌ ولم يُطِل القيامَ بقاعدِ

    A wanton air took him, cast him

    Into empty raptures of thin dreams

  44. نَسَبَ السماءَ يريد أين فخارُها

    منه فباهلَها بفخرٍ زائدِ

    His troops were mown down by the spear tips

    Like ears of grain harvested by the reaper

  45. وسما يماجدُ قومَه بنجومها

    فثَنَى ولم يظفَرْ بنجمٍ ماجدِ

    A rider whose heart is of solid rock

    Hollow, or broken ruins -

  46. غرسَ المعاليَ مُكرَمٌ في تربها

    فجنت حلاوةَ كلّ عيشٍ باردِ

    Hump-backed, taking its bumpy course,

    With parts missing or extra

  47. حَجْراً على الأقدارِ فيما نفَّذَتْ

    أحكامَها من صادرٍ أو واردِ

    Veering between the sky and stagnant hollows

    Up and down the low ground

  48. لن تعدَم الآفاقُ نجماً طالعاً

    منها ينوّر إثر نجمٍ خامدِ

    Peering and not having tread the earth

    Neither smoothly nor evenly drifting

  49. فالسيفُ منهم في يمين المنتضِي

    كالسيف منهم في يمين الغامدِ

    Suffocating the riders while it swims

    In waters whose terrible currents crash

  50. هم ما هُمُ وتفرّقت آياتُهم

    في المجد ثم تجمَّعتْ في واحدِ

    Ugly - if imagination pictured it

    My eyes would not close in slumber

  51. أحيت لهم أيامُ محيي الأمّةِ ال

    عافِي وهبَّتْ بالرَّقودِ الهاجدِ

    Convey - I wish you'd relate my messages

    That pour from my lips though you're absent

  52. وتسنَّمَتْ دَرَجَ السماء بذِكرهم

    أيامُ آثارٍ لهم ومَشاهدِ

    Or would that my heart be deaf in ribs

    Of solid, unfeeling bones

  53. وإلى يمين الدولة افتقرت يدٌ

    في الملك لم تُعضَدْ سواه بعاضدِ

    So I could dive into thickness seething

    And pour into the lucid, cool sea

  54. نظمَ السياسةَ مالكٌ أطرافَها

    لم تستعِنْ عَزَماتهُ بمُرافِدِ

    Say - when you reach Nasir al-Din - listen

    To a plea gathering each wandering stream

  55. وأقامَ ميلَ الدولتينِ مؤدِّبٌ

    بِثقافه خَطَلَ الزمانِ المائدِ

    O best of those whom fine steeds' hips bore

    Or resting-place for bosoms and pillows

  56. سبقَ الرجالَ بسعيه وبقومه

    والمجدُ بين مَكاسبٍ ومَوالدِ

    Wearing pure banner zealously across his brow

    Crowning, clamping the crown

  57. جَرت البحارُ فما وفت بيمينه

    فكأنَّ ذائبَها يُمَدُّ بجامدِ

    I'm a servant you rewarded - no gift

    Was tied to any denying other

  58. ضنَّتْ بجوهرها وما في حِرْزِها

    من مُنفساتِ ذخائرٍ وفوائدِ

    Enriching me beyond each despicable

    Soul dejected, face downcast

  59. فاستخرجتْها كفُّه وسيوفُه

    فسخَتْ بها لمؤمِّلٍ ولرافدِ

    Lifting from my back the weight of ills

    I'd borne from repeated disasters

  60. نامَ الرعاةُ عن البلادِ وأهلِها

    عجزاً وعيناه شِهابَا واقدِ

    Fate reveled tormenting me yet indeed!

    You made its corruption aright for me

  61. وحَمَى جوانبَ سَرحهِ متنصِّفٌ

    للشاء من ذئب الغضا المستاسِدِ

    Preserving by honoring and favoring

    What old poems and anthems recalled

  62. وإذا الأسودُ شممن ريحَ عرينه

    كانت صوارمُه عِصيَّ الذائد

    Flaws - if enemies sought refuge in its like

    They'd tie by them the finest pact with you

  63. ما بين سَرْبُزَةٍ إلى ما يَستقي

    وادي الأُبُلَّةِ هابطاً من صاعدِ

    Who else shelters migrants from your gaze

    Of remote place, far locale?

  64. يقظانُ يضرب وهو غيرُ مبارِزٍ

    عزماً ويطعن وهو غير مُطارِدِ

    You remembered him, retreating from you

    In mighty sovereignty's rapture

  65. كفٌّ له تَحمِي وسيفٌ يُنتضَى

    ولحاظُ راعٍ للرعيّةِ راصدِ

    Not throngs amassed around nor attendants

    Saved him from the grip of death

  66. وإذا بغَى باغٍ فباتَ يرومُه

    باتت صوارمُه بغيرِ مَغامد

    An air wantonly bore then cast him

    In dissipations of thin dreams' rapture

  67. ومطوِّحٍ ركِبَ الخِطار فردَّه

    أعمى تحيَّر ماله من قائدِ

    His troops speartips did mow

    Like grains under the reaper's harvest

  68. كفَّ الرَّعاعَ وجاء يطلبُ حاجةً

    عسراءَ في كفِّ الهمامِ اللابد

    A rider, heart of solid rock

    Or broken tower ruins

  69. يَرمي الكواكبَ وهي سعدٌ كلُّها

    بمَناحسٍ من جَدّه ومَناكدِ

    Hump-backed, taking its bumpy road

    Parts missing or extra

  70. جُنَّتْ به الأطماعُ فاستغُوِي بها

    يصبو إلى شيطانها المتماردِ

    Between heaven and stagnant hollow

    Rising and on low ground falling

  71. خُبِّرتُهُ يبغِي عُمانَ وأهلَها

    فعرفت مَصدرَه بجهل الواردِ

    Peering but not having touched earth

    Neither smooth nor steady gait

  72. لم يُنجِه والموتُ في حَيزومِهِ

    ما ضمَّ من حَفْلٍ له ومَحاشدِ

    Tormenting the riders while swimming

    In waters, crashing currents chafe

  73. جمحَتْ به غرّارةٌ من حَيْنه

    قذفته في لَهَواتِ صِلٍّ زاردِ

    Ugly - if pictured in imagination

    My eyes wouldn't close in slumber

  74. نُسِفَتْ بأطراف الرماحِ جنودُهُ

    طَوْحَ السنابلِ عن شفارِ الحاصدِ

    Convey - may my words from lips pour

    To absent witness, though you're far

  75. من راكبٌ وفؤادهُ من صخرةٍ

    جَوفاءَ أمَّ فواقِرٍ وأوابِد

    Oh would my heart be deaf in ribs

    Of unfeeling solid bones

  76. حدباءَ تسلك من عثار طريقها

    حُدْباً ذواتِ نواقصٍ وزوائدِ

    That I may plunge in thickness seething

    And pour into lucid, cool sea

  77. فتظلّ طوراً في عنانِ سمائها

    صُعُداً وطوراً في الحضيضِ الهامدِ

    Say - when you reach Nasir al-Din, listen

    To a plea gathering each far stream

  78. تختبُّ قامصةً ولم تطأ الثرى

    وتظلُّ لا في سبسبٍ وفدافدِ

  79. يظمَا بها الركبانُ وهي سوابحٌ

    في غامرٍ تيّارُه متراكدِ

  80. شنعاءَ لو طَرَقَ الخَيالُ بمثلها

    عيني لما أطبقتُ مقلةَ راقدِ

  81. بلِّغْ وليتَ رسائلي تقتصّها

    شفتي وغائبِيَ المؤخَّرَ شاهدي

  82. أو ليت قلبي كان قلبَك أصمَعاً

    في أضلعٍ صُمِّ العظامِ أجالدِ

  83. فأخوضَ بحراً من حميمٍ آجنٍ

    يُفضِي إلى البحرِ الزُّلالِ الباردِ

  84. قلْ إن وصلتَ لناصر الدين استمع

    فِقَراً تُجمِّعُ كلَّ أنسٍ شاردِ

  85. يا خيرَ من حَمَلتْ ظهورُ صواهلٍ

    في المُلك أو ضمَّتْ صدور وسائدِ

  86. وتعصّبَتْ بالنور فوق جبينه

    عَذَبُ اللواء تَحُفُّ تاجَ العاقدِ

  87. أنا عبدُ نعمتك التي شُكِرَتْ إذا

    ما نعمةٌ نيطت بآخرَ جاحدِ

  88. أغنيتني عن كلّ مذمومِ الجَدَا

    ألقاه مضْطَرَّاً بوجهٍ حامدِ

  89. ونفضتَ عن ظَهرِي بفضلك ثِقل ما

    أوعيتُ من نُوبٍ عليّ شدائدِ

  90. كان الزمانُ يُسرُّ لي ضِغْناً فقد

    أصلحتَ لي قلبَ الزمان الفاسد

  91. وحفِظتَ فيّ تكرُّماً وتفضُّلاً

    ما أذكَرتْكَ قدائمي وتلائدي

  92. ذِمَمٌ لو اعتَصَمَ العُداةُ بمثلها

    عقدوا بهنّ لديك خيرَ مَعاقدِ

  93. ومن الذي يُرعَى سواك لنازح

    عن لحظه نائى المحلّ مُباعدِ

  94. متناقِص الخطواتِ عنك ذكرتَهُ

    في سَكرةِ المُلكِ العظيم الزائدِ

  95. أوليتَني في ابني ونفسي خيرَ ما

    أوليتَ في ولدٍ شفاعةَ والدِ

  96. فلذاك كرَّ على مشقّةِ طُرقهِ

    وكررتُ أطلبُ من نداك عوائدي

  97. تُعطي المنى ونعود نسألُ ثانياً

    فتعود حبّاً للسماح العائدِ

  98. وتموتُ حاجتنا وينفَدُ فقرُنا

    وسؤالنا ونداك ليس بنافدِ

  99. فاحكم بسنَّتك التي شَرَعَ الندى

    لك شرعَها حُكمَ القديرِ الواحد

  100. كَفِّلْ علاك بحاجتي واكفف يدي

    عن كلّ جَعد الكف جَعد الساعدِ

  101. فالناسُ غيرَك من تضيق مَجَالتي

    فيه وتُقتل بالمِطالِ مَواعدي

  102. صنْ عنهُمُ شَفَتي ودعني واحداً

    في الدهر أشرب من قلَيبٍ واحدِ

  103. حاشا لمجدك أن تُسدَّدَ خَلَّتي

    بمُشارِك لك فيّ أو بمساعدِ

  104. وانصِتْ لها غُرراً لمدحك وحده

    يُنظمنَ بين قلائدٍ وفرائدِ

  105. من كلّ مخلوعٍ لصادقِ حسنها

    فيها عذارُ العابدين لعابدِ

  106. عذراءَ مفضوضٍ لديك ختامُها

    ما كلُّ عذراءٍ تُزَفُّ بناهدِ

  107. تجلو عليك بيوتُها ما أُنشِدت

    حوراء ذات وشائح وقلائدِ

  108. كعقيلة الحيّ الحُلولِ تمشَّت ال

    خُيَلاءَ بين وصائفٍ وولائدِ

  109. مما سبقتُ بخاطري أمَّاتِها

    وحويتُهُ برقايَ أو بمَكايدي

  110. خضعَ الكلامُ لمعجِزِي في نظمِها

    فعنا لها من راكعٍ أو ساجدِ

  111. قد آمنَ الشعراءُ بعد فسوقهم

    بدلائلي في فضلها وشواهدي

  112. وأطاع كلُّ منافق إن سَرّه

    أو ساءه وأقرَّ كلُّ معاندِ

  113. فاعطفْ لمهديها وحاملِ تربِها

    واحملْ له حقَّ السفير الرائدِ

  114. وارددْهُ عن عَجَلٍ كما عوَّدتَه

    برواجعٍ من نعمتيك ردائدِ

  115. واشددْ يداً بالخافقين مملكاً

    عنقيهما من أتهُمٍ ونجائدِ

  116. في دولةٍ أختِ السعودِ وعزّةٍ

    أمِّ النجوم وعمرِ ملكٍ خالدِ
