1. صحا القلبُ لكن صبوةٌ وحنينُ

    وأقصرَ إلَّا أن يَخِفَّ قَطينُ

    My heart healed but yearns and grieves

    And is saddened unless bitterness subsides

  2. وراودَه داعي النُّهَى فأجابه

    إلى الصبر إلّا أن يقالَ يخونُ

    And the voice of prohibition urged it to respond

    With patience unless it is said he betrays

  3. فما يستخِفُّ الهجرُ ميزانَ حلمهِ

    ولا هو إن حُمَّ الفراقُ رزينُ

    So separation does not make light his scales of composure

    Nor when the agony of parting becomes heavy would he fret

  4. إذا سايرته فضلةٌ من جلادةٍ

    على هاجرٍ عزَّته يومَ يبينُ

    If an abundance of smoothness accompanies him

    To a departed beloved, his dignity apparent when clarified

  5. وقالوا يكون البينُ والمرء رابطٌ

    حشاهُ بفضلِ الحزمِ قلتُ يكونُ

    And they said there would be clarity and the man is steadfast

    Fortified by the excellence of resolve, I said there would be

  6. وقد يضمنُ القلبُ الصرامةَ لو وفَى

    ويصدُق وعدُ الظنِّ ثم يَمينُ

    And the heart can ensure sternness if it fulfills

    And the promise of assumption proves true then belief

  7. دعوني فلي إن زُمَّت العيسُ وقفةٌ

    أعلِّمُ فيها الصخرَ كيفَ يلينُ

    Leave me be, for if hardships amass I have a stance

    In which I teach the boulder how to soften

  8. وخلّوا دموعي أو يقالَ نعم بكا

    وزفرةَ صدري أو يقالَ حزينُ

    And leave my tears or it will be said he cried well

    And the sighing of my chest or it will be said he grieves

  9. فلولا غليلُ الشوق أو دمعةُ النوى

    لما خُلِقتْ لي أضلعٌ وجفونُ

    For if not for the anguish of yearning or a teardrop of affection

    Ribs and eyelids would not have been created for me

  10. وفي الركبِ لي إن أنجد الركب حاجةٌ

    أُجِلُّ اسمَها أن تُقتَضَى وأصونُ

    And I have a need among the traveling party if I help the traveling party in need

    I revere its name to be sought and protect

  11. يماطلني عَنها المليُّ وقد درى

    على غدره أن العهودَ ديونُ

    The king teases me away from it and he knows well

    That pacts are debts upon his treason

  12. وجوهٌ على وادي الغضا ما عدمتُها

    فكلُّ عزيزٍ بالجمال يهونُ

    And faces in the valley of absence I did not lack

    So every dear one in beauty becomes cheap

  13. تشبّثتُ بالأقمار عنها عُلالةً

    وباناتِ سلع والفُروقُ تَبينُ

    I clung to the moons about them desperately

    As rising signs and differences become clear

  14. وهل عِوضٌ في أن تتِمَّ تشبُّهاً

    بهنَّ بدورٌ أو تميدَ غصونُ

    And is there compensation in fully resembling them

    In cycles or swaying boughs extending

  15. وعوَّذني عرَّافُ نجدٍ بذِكرها

    فأعلَمني أن الغرامَ جنونُ

    And the palmist of Najd warned me of remembering them

    Thus informing me that passion is madness

  16. تعوَّدَ داءً ظاهراً أن يَطُبَّه

    فكيف له بالداءِ وهو دفينُ

    He was accustomed to praising apparent sickness

    So how can he handle the illness while it is latent

  17. لقد نصحَ القاريُّ في رامياتنا

    بسلع وبعض الوالدات ضنين

    Indeed the foreteller advised in our arrows

    At Sula and some of the young women were stingy

  18. رمين بعيدا والقسيُّ حواجبٌ

    فاخلصنَ فينا والسهامُ عُيونُ

    Shoot far O harsh one, women pure of deed

    So be frank with us as the arrows are eyes

  19. أيا صاحبي قدِّمْ جميلا فإنما

    تُدانُ بما تُولِي غداً وتدينُ

    O my companion present good for only

    What you grant tomorrow are you judged and indebted

  20. كفيتُك في طُرقِ الهوى أن تُعِزّني

    فهل أنت في طرق العلاء مُهينُ

    I have sufficed you in the paths of love to honor me

    So are you in the paths of sublime disgracing me?

  21. وفي الناس مَولَى نعمةٍ حاسدٌ لها

    عدوٌّ وفي الجُلَّى أخٌ وخدينُ

    And among the people there is an ungrateful guardian of blessing

    An enemy and in the cheeks a brother and serene

  22. أثِرْها على حبِّ الوفاء وحسنهِ

    تَصعَّبُ في أشطانها وتلينُ

    Influence it over the love of loyalty and its beauty

    Difficulties in its plains and it softens

  23. جوافل من طردِ الرياحِ قريبة

    عليها فِجاجُ الأرض وهي شَطونُ

    Caravans of expelled winds are nearing

    Upon it the crevices of earth and it running

  24. مُضبَّرَةٌ فتلاءُ تُروَى إذا بكت

    من الظِّمءِ فتلاءُ الذراعِ أمونُ

    Dotted lines its brigades are watered if crying

    From thirst so the brigades of forearms are impaired

  25. تَشَعَّثُ أوبارُ المهارَى وظهرها

    من الخِصب وحفُ الوفرتين دهينُ

    The camel hair of singers is disheveled and their backs

    Are fertile and the best of two plentiful years fat

  26. لها وهي خُرْسٌ تحت عضِّ رحالِها

    تشكٍّ إذا جدَّ السُّرَى وأنينُ

    For them even mute under the impact of their milestones

    Complaining if the journey becomes serious and moaning

  27. ظهورُ المطايا للحُمول وثِقْلُها

    تِئطّ جُنُوبٌ تحته وبطونُ

    The backs of beasts for burdens and their heaviness

    Panting lambs under them and abdomens

  28. سماوَتُها الخضراءُ أختُ سمائها

    إذا رفعت واليعملات سفينُ

    Its heavens green a sister to its skies

    If raised and the ships are safe

  29. لها في عِقابِ الموج مَتنٌ ململَمٌ

    قويٌّ ولكن لا يقالُ أمينُ

    For it in the crest of the wave a repeated surge

    Strong but it cannot be said safe

  30. إلى البحر عذبا نركبُ البحرَ مملِحا

    وربَّ سُهولٍ طُرْقُهنَّ حُزونُ

    To the freshwater sea we ride the briny sea

    And many plains whose roads are depressed

  31. خبيثٌ مريرُ الشربِ يسقيك بعده

    زلالٌ على حكم الشفاهِ مَعينُ

    Bitter the bitter drink that gives you drink after it

    A clear one by the rule of lips helpful

  32. على الأرض بحرٌ ثامنٌ صفوُ مائه

    طغَى بالبحارِ السبعِ وهي أجُونُ

    Upon the ground an eighth sea pure is its water

    Flooding over the seven seas and they debased

  33. غدا ربُّها لما أحاط بملكها

    بذلك يُرضِي كَلَّهَا ويدَينُ

    Tomorrow its Lord when encompassing its realm

    With that satisfying it entirely and indebted

  34. فخضْها على التوفيق واقدح بزندها

    عمانَ وإنِّي بالنجاح ضمينُ

    So urge it toward success and strike with its flints

    Oman and I am confident in triumph

  35. يمينيَ رهنٌ بالغنى لك أن طرتْ

    على مَلِكٍ كلتا يديه يمينُ

    My right hand is hostage to fortune for you when excellent

    Upon a king both his hands being oaths

  36. فشاورْ نجومَ السعد والقِ بصدرها

    إلى فلقٍ فيه الصباحُ كمينُ

    So consult the stars of fortune and hurl to its chest

    To a gap in which dawn lies in wait

  37. ومن لي بها لو أن حظا مماسكا

    يُجيب وعزما يستعانُ يُبينُ

    And who do I have with it if a share of firmly held

    Responds and resolved is sought evident?

  38. وقلبا إذا ما أبصر الرشدَ فاهتدى

    يغطي عليه حبّه ويَرِينُ

    And a heart when seeing guidance it is guided

    Its love covers it and flows

  39. على أنّ ثَمَّ الغيثَ عَمَّ فماؤه

    عليَّ وإن شطَّ المزارُ هتونُ

    However, rain poured general so its water upon me

    And if the livestock fattened, became weak

  40. وأرضِي به والأرضُ بيني وبينه

    من الخصْب جَنَّاتٌ خَفَتْ وعيونُ

    And I sufficed with it and the land between me and it

    Of fertility, gardens have flourished and springs

  41. ففي كُلِّ يومٍ نعمةٌ أختُ نعمةٍ

    وجودُ له مما يليه قرينُ

    So in each day a blessing sister of blessing

    And charity whose following is a pair

  42. مواهبُ بيضٌ ودّت المزنُ أنّها

    لها وهي حَمَّاء السحائبِ جُونُ

    Gifts eggs the clouds loved that they

    For it pregnant with clouds are immune

  43. تكثِّر حسادي عليه فأوجهٌ

    زُوِينَ وألحاظٌ إليّ شُفُونُ

    It increased my enviers of it so faces

    Adorned and glances to me yearning

  44. وأيدٍ مدمّاةٌ عليَّ بعضِّها

    كما عَضَّ في إثر البياع غَبينُ

    And bloodied hands toward me some of which

    Bit in the tracks of the foolish betrayer

  45. إلى ناصر الدين امتطى كاهلَ المنى

    خليقٌ بغايَات النجاح قمينُ

    To the supporter of religion the hopes of success mounted

    Worthy of the highest aspirations honest

  46. إلى ملك الأرض الذي كلُّ مُعرِقٍ

    إلى نسبَيْهِ في الملوك هَجينُ

    To the king of earth whom all Perspiring

    To his lineage among kings crescent

  47. كريم إذا صَمَّ الزمانُ فجودُه

    سميعٌ لأصوات العُفاة أذينُ

    Generous if the times grew lean his charity

    Attentive to the voices of the barefoot listening

  48. توحَّدَ في الدنيا فما يستحقُّه

    مكانٌ من الدنيا الوَساع مكينُ

    Singular in the mortal world so what befits it

    Cannot be placed in the capacious steadfast

  49. وحلَّق يبغى موطنا لعَلائه

    فأصبح فوقا والكواكب دونُ

    And soared seeking an abode for its sublimity

    Thus becoming highest and the planets below

  50. ترى البدر من تحت الثريَّا إذا وفتْ

    على التاج منه غُرَّةٌ وَجَبينُ

    You see the moon beneath the Pleiades when it rises

    To the crown from it a new crescent and forehead

  51. لقد حملَ الدنيا صليبٌ أطاقها

    وقد وُقِصَتْ منها طُلىً ومُتونُ

    It carried the cross the world which exhausted it

    And from it requirements and bodies were shortened

  52. وولَّى ظُباهُ خيرَها فأقامها

    على قصبات السبق وهي رُهونُ

    And he turned its brilliance to spread good so he kept it

    Upon the staffs of precedence and it pawned

  53. وأظهرَ في تدبيرها معجزاتِهِ

    فقام نذيرٌ بالغيوب مُبينُ

    And he revealed in its management his miracles

    So a warner to the unseen became evident

  54. رأى فضلَها للسابقين فبذَّهم

    جِماحا وجَارَى السابقاتِ حَرونُ

    He saw its preference to the early ones so he whipped them

    To enthusiasm and raced with the early diligent steeds

  55. وقد عجزتْ من قبلها أن يسوسَها

    قُرونٌ على أدراجها وقُرونُ

    And it had failed before it to be ruled

    By centuries in its corridors and centuries

  56. فلا آل كسرى قوّدوها مقادةً

    وعندهُمُ ركَّاضَةٌ وصُفونُ

    So not the house of Chosroes who marshalled it

    And with them jesters and swords

  57. ولا حِميَرُ الأقيالِ قاموا بحفظها

    وفيهم قِبابٌ دونها وحُصونُ

    Nor the donkeys of burdens who protected it

    And among them domes below it and fortresses

  58. هو القائم المهديّ فيها وعصرُه

    زمانٌ لإصلاح الأمور وحينُ

    He is the standing guide in it and his era

    A time to reform matters and proper

  59. ولولا ظُبا أقلامِه وسيوفِهِ

    لما كان مُلكٌ في الزمان يكونُ

    And if not for the pens of his glory and his swords

    There would be no kingdom in eras formed

  60. ولا قامت الدنيا بسيرةِ عادلٍ

    يُهابُ ولم يُنصَرْ لربّك دينُ

    Nor would the world stand by the path of a just one

    Feared and your religion would not be supported

  61. بآية محي الأمة انتشرت لها

    من التّرب سُبْلُ الحقِّ وهو دفينُ

    With the miracle that revived the nation it spread

    From the soil the paths of truth and it hidden

  62. غدت ناصلا من كلّ جورٍ بعدله

    مطهَّرةَ الأطرافِ وهي درينُ

    It became detached from all injustice through his justice

    Purified of edges and it coarse

  63. على مكرماتٍ للعلا ناصريّةٍ

    قدائمَ شابتْ والزمانُ جنينُ

    Upon virtues supporting the sublime Al Bu Said

    Ancient rejuvenated and time embryo

  64. بناها على حد الصوارم والقنا

    أسودٌ لها غابُ الرماح عَرينُ

    He built it upon the edge of swords and spears

    Lions whose thicket of spears is a den

  65. إذا نفضوا الراياتِ أو زعزعوا القنا

    غدت حركاتُ الناس وهي سُكونُ

    If they shook the banners or disturbed the spears

    The movements of people became still

  66. يَضيعُ ضياءُ الشمس في ليل نقعهم

    فإظهارُهم تحتَ العجاج دُجونُ

    The light of the sun is lost in the night of their assault

    So their appearance under the clouds gloomy

  67. مضوا سلفا واستخلفوك لمجدهم

    فقرَّت جُنوبٌ في الثرى وعيونُ

    They went ahead and made you their successor to their glory

    So hips crouched into the ground and springs

  68. وفيتَ بما سنُّوا وزدتَ زيادةً

    تفوتُ مكاييلٌ لهم ووزُونُ

    And you fulfilled what they instituted and increased moreover

    Measures escape them and scales

  69. علوتَ على الأنداد عزّاً ورفعةً

    وحَطَّهُمُ خفضٌ يِدقُّ وهونُ

    You towered over peers in honor and sublimity

    And debased them a debasement which continues and becomes negligent

  70. لهم شركة الأسماء فيه وعندك ال

    معاني وهم شكٌّ وأنت يقينُ

    For them names are shared with it yet yours are the

    Meanings whilst they are doubt and you certainty

  71. فضَلتَهمُ نفسا ودارا ونعمةً

    وبين الذُّنابَى والذوائبِ بِينُ

    You surpassed them in self and house and blessing

    And between the tails and appendages distinction

  72. فإن باهلوا بالماء يجري جداولا

    فماؤك جمٌّ والبحار حَقينُ

    So if they prided themselves on flowing water streams

    Yours is a deluge and seas sincere

  73. وظنوا النسيمَ كلَّما رقَّ سُحرةً

    ألذَّ فأغلاطٌ هفت وظنونُ

    And if they narrated about their Syria and Iraq

    With you there is India interminable and China

  74. هجيرُك بالمعروفِ والعدلِ باردٌ

    وظلُّهمُ بالمنكراتِ سخينُ

    And it contains from the open sea wonders

    Which scent their bodies and adorn

  75. وضيقُ البلادِ مع سماحك واسعٌ

    وأعطانُهم هذي الرحابُ سجونُ

    And pride is no merit between a house and its sister

    But among men screening

  76. وأرضك كافورٌ يخاضُ وجوهرٌ

    وأرضهُمُ صخرٌ يداس وطينُ

    And how much talk of love some of it drew

    To poetry some and the speech is moan

  77. وإن حدَّثوا عن شامهم وعراقهم

    فعندك هندٌ لا ترام وصينُ

    And Baghdad cries and Basra complains

    And my poetry is a lament for them and humming

  78. وتحوي من البحر المحيطِ عجائبا

    تطيبُ بها أجسامهم وتزينُ

    And how many cities spent the night greeting one another

    Whilst war toward you raging

  79. وما الفخرُ طِبِّي بين دار وأختِها

    ولكنَّه بين الرجال بُيونُ

    Your lifetime and its wellbeing you bestowed to the world

    O master of kings, alive with it pledge

  80. ورُبَّ حديث بالهوى جرَّ بعضُهُ

    إلى الشعر بعضا والحديث شجونُ

    And Eternal Bliss aspirations of lofty

    Citadels built and fortresses immortality

  81. وبغدادُ تبكي والبُصَيرةُ تشتكي

    وشعري نشيج عنهما ورنينُ

    And this kingdom made endless has exceeded

    Mountains of everlasting and it firm

  82. وكم بلدةٍ باتت تسالم أختَها

    وبينهما حربٌ عليك زَبونُ

    Until the millenarian return wandering

    Walking and the earth becomes infertile and smoky

  83. سلمتَ لدنيا عمرُها وصلاحُها

    بعمرك يا مولَى الملوكِ رهينُ

    And I greeted you from me singers as if

    Their melodies are of what the tones beautiful

  84. وطاولت الخضراءَ خلدا ونعمةً

    قصورُ عُلاً شيَّدتها وحصونُ

    Undertaken by among the Sultans orators

    Honest and some of the complimenters oath

  85. وخُلِّدَ هذا الملكُ تَضعُفُ دونه

    جبالٌ بقاءَ الدهرِ وهو متينُ

    To your glory from it day wanting its marriage

    However you wished brides led and sightless

  86. إلى أن تعودَ الراسياتُ موائراً

    تسيرُ وتُضحي الأرضُ وهي دخينُ

    Bestowed from evidence, honorable in virtue

    For they are branches or plucked berries of eyes

  87. وحيَّتك عنّي مطرباتٌ كأنما

    أناشيدُها مما حلَونَ لُحونُ

    I boast to excess of goodwill toward their dowers

    So I compromise therefrom the dung and it precious

  88. يقوم بها بين السِّماطين خاطبٌ

    صدوقٌ وبعضُ المادحينَ يمينُ

    And carries it from me a steed itself

    For service to you and the heart from it miser

  89. لمجدك منها يومَ تبغي نكاحَها

    كما شئتَ أبكارٌ تُزفُّ وعُونُ

    It is the slave despaired and son obedient

    And slave of disobedience and the defiant to eye

  90. موائسُ من دلٍّ شوامسُ عِفّةً

    فهنَّ غصونٌ أو خرائدُ عِينُ

    It has every year from you regular grace

    And my hopes expand when the time comes

  91. تغالِي بفرط الجود لي في مهورها

    فأُرخص منها العِلقَ وهو ثمينُ

    An expedition in your goodness rouses it

    It trusts in wealth and comfort

  92. ويحملُها عنّي جوادٌ بنفسه

    لخدمتكم والقلبُ منه ضنينُ

    So note it with bestowal do not entrust it

    A delegate showing advice and it violating trust

  93. هو العبدُ قِنّاً وابنُ عبدك طاعةً

    وعبدُ المعاصي والعِصِيِّ لعينُ

    It is restless however much you grant as if

    Healthy with what you give the poor malignant

  94. له كلَّ عامٍ منكَ عادةُ نعمةٍ

    ولي تُوسَع الآمالُ حين تحينُ

    Support it in judgment until you aided it

    And your good if destiny honest

  95. ينهِّضُه سعيٌ بفضلك آنسٌ

    له ثقةٌ نحو الغنى وسكونُ

    And live [long] for I have from living benefit

    And for the people in a person other than you preoccupations

  96. فلاحظْه بالإنعامِ لا توكلَنَّه

    سفيرا يريك النصحَ وهو خئونُ

    And what weakened me of them was my requests

    To them and my fortune from your bounty robust

  97. له قَلَقٌ مهما وهبتَ كأنّه

    سليمٌ بما تُعطِي العفاةَ طعينُ

    And what saddened me that rain withholds its downpour

    Yet your palm for me even if I were to milk milkshake

  98. تحيَّفه في الحكم حتى نصرتَه

    وجُودك إن جارالقضاء أمينُ

    If only the world were my family while you are to me

    I would stand amongst them supported and secure

  99. وعش لي فلي شأنٌ من العيش صالحٌ

    وللناس في ناسٍ سواك شئونُ

    And I implore you alive and implore for my inheritors

    Your aid and my body in soil buried

  100. وما ضرَّني منهم نحولُ مطالبي

    لديهم وحظّي من نداك سمينُ

    If providence protects you from each adversity

    Then my face questioning safeguarded

  101. وما ساءني أن يمنعَ الغيثُ جودَهُ

    وكفُّك لي إمّا احتلبتُ لَبونُ

  102. لوَ اَنَّ الورى أهلي لكنتُ وأنتَ لي

    أقومُ بهم مستظهرا وأمونُ

  103. وأرجوك لي حيّاً وأرجو لوارثي

    نداك وجسمي في التراب دفينُ

  104. إذا صانك المقدارُ من كلّ حادثٍ

    فوجهيَ عن ذلِّ السؤال مصونُ
