ما أنتِ بعد البين من أوطاني

دارَ الهوى والدارُ بالجيرانِ

You are not far from my homelands

The abode of love and the house with neighbors

كنتِ المنى من قبل طارقةِ النوى

والشملُ شملي والزمانُ زماني

You were my wish before the appearance of intent

And the gathering is my gathering and the time is my time

ولئن خلوتِ فليس أوّل حادثٍ

خلَت الكناسُ له من الغزلانِ

And if you are empty, it is not the first incident

The gazelles left it for the does

طرَبُ الحمامِ بطبعهنّ وإنما اس

تَملَين فيكِ النوحَ من أحزاني

The turtledoves are disturbed by their nature, but rather the women

Sought consolation for my sorrows from you

أمخيّمون على اللوى من عالج

أم لاحقون الماء في ماوانِ

Are they camping on the curve out of hardship

Or chasing water in channels?

دعهم وقلبي ما وفَوا بضمانه

ودع البكاء لهم يفي بضمانِ

Leave them, and my heart did not fulfill its guarantee

And leave crying for them, it fulfills the guarantee

رحلوا بأحلامي فقلتُ لمقلتي

إن النهى حجرٌ على الأجفانِ

They took my dreams, so I said to my saying

That prevention is a barrier on the eyelids

بيضاءُ في الغادين يومي أسودٌ

من بعدها وبكايَ أحمرُ قاني

White among the lost, my day is black

After it and my crying is more red my blood

عطف الفؤادَ على الحدائق أنها

خلعتْ تعطُّفَها على الأغصانِ

The heart sympathized with the gardens that

It took off its sympathy for the branches

يا شمسُ طال الليل بعدَ فراقها

طالَ الصباحُ وأنتِ في الأظعانِ

O sun, the night was long after its departure

The morning was long and you are in the brambles

إن النميرَ لِواردي فتعلّما

يا صاحبيَّ من الذي ترِدانِ

If the creek is for my visitors, then learn

O my friend, who are you getting?

يتعاورُ الحسَّادُ أخذِي طائعا

بيدٍ لحقِّ الله من شيطاني

The envious attack me willingly

With a hand of God's right from my devil

هي فِطرةٌ ما زلتُ من ثقتي بها

قِدْما أشُمُّ العزَّ من أرداني

It is pure nature that I have not faltered in my confidence in it

Forward I smell dignity from its plains

وقناعةٌ بالعفو تؤذن أنها

للفضل إن الحرص للنقصانِ

And satisfaction with forgiveness indicating that it is

For virtue, that greed is for deficiency

ما ضرَّ من أفقرتُ فيه خواطري

وهو الغنيّ لوَ انه أغناني

What harm did it do to impoverish my thoughts in it

And it is rich, if only it made me rich

ليت البخيلَ القابلِي والباخسي

حقيِّ كما هو مانعي ياباني

I wish the stingy recipient and the fraudster

My right as he prevents me from getting it

ما سرَّني منه وفي أفعالِهِ

سخطُ المكارم أنه يرضاني

Nothing pleased me in his actions

The indignation of generosity that he pleases me

لا شيءَ في ميزان شعري عنده

وأخفّ شيء في الجَدا ميزاني

There is nothing in the balance of my poetry for him

And the lightest thing in seriousness is my scale

في الناسِ من يَرضَى بجُبن يمينه

إن عُدّ يومَ الرَّوْع غيرَ جبانِ

Among the people there are those who are satisfied with the cowardice of their oath

If they count the day of horror something other than cowards

ولقد تكون يدُ الكميِّ قصيرةً

بالبخل وهي مع السماح يدانِ

And the hand of the few may be short

With stinginess while it is with generosity two hands

كثرُ الحديثث عن الكرام وكلُّ من

جرّبتُ ألفاظٌ بغير معاني

A lot of talk about the generous and everyone

Whom I have tried, words without meanings

إلا بسعدٍ من تنبّه للعلا

هيهات نُوَّمُهمُ من اليقظانِ

Unless someone woke up to supremacy

Alas, we put them to sleep from the vigilant

مهلا بني الحسد الدخيلِ فإنها

لا تُدْرَك العلياءُ بالأضغانِ

Wait, O children of intrusive envy, for they

Cannot be reached, the most high, with malignity

سعدُ بن أحمدَ أبيضٌ من أبيضٍ

في المجد فانتسِبوا بني الألوانِ

Saad bin Ahmed is whiter than white

In glory, so attribute yourselves, O children of colors

بين الجبال الصُّمّ بحرٌ ثامنٌ

يحوي جلامدَها وبدرٌ ثاني

Between the deaf mountains is an eighth sea

Containing their corpses, and another full moon

من معشرٍ سبقوا إلى حاجاتهم

شوطَ الرياح وقد جرتْ لرِهانِ

From a group who preceded their needs

The distance of the winds, and they set out for the bet

قوم إذا وزَروا الملوكَ برأيهم

أمرتْ عمائمُهم على التيجانِ

A people, when they advise kings with their opinion

Their turbans commanded the crowns

ضربوا بمدرَجة السبيلِ قِبابَهم

يتقارعون بها على الضِّيفانِ

They pitched the minarets of the way their domes

Competing on them for the two guests

ويكاد مُوقدهم يجود بنفسه

حبَّ القِرى حطباً على النيرانِ

And their fire almost volunteers itself out of its love

For homeland, firewood on the fires

أبناء ضبَّةَ واسعون وفي الوغى

يتضايقون تضايق الأسنانِ

The sons of the wide enclosure jostle

The jostling of teeth during confusion

يا راكبا زُهرُ الكواكب قصدُه

قرِّب لعلّك عندها تلقاني

O rider, the blossom of the planets intends for him

Come closer, perhaps you will meet me then

قف نادِ يا سعدَ الملوك رسالةً

من عبدك القاصي بحبٍّ داني

Stop, call O Saad, the kings have a message

From your servant the judge, with humble obedience

غالطتُ شوقي فيك قبلَ لقائنا

والقربُ ظنٌّ والمزارُ أماني

I made a mistake longing for you before we met

Nearness is assumption and pilgrimage is my wishes

حتى إذا ما الوصل أطفأ غُلَّتي

بك كان أعطشَ لي من الهجرانِ

Until when the connection extinguished my embers for you

The estrangement was the one most thirsty for me

ولربَّ وجدِ تواصُفٍ ناهضتُه

وضعُفتُ لما صار وجدَ عِيانِ

And maybe natural accord I have undertaken with him

Weakened when it became clearly harmony

ولقد عكستَ عليّ ذاك لأنني

كنتُ الحبيبَ إليك قبلَ تراني

And you reflected that on me because I

Was the beloved to you before you saw me

ومن العجائب والزمانُ ملوَّنٌ

أن الدنُوَّ هو الذي أقصاني

And from the wonders, and time is diverse

That rapprochement is what took me far away

خُبِّرتُكم تتناقلون محاسني

قبلَ اللقاء تناقل الرَّيحانِ

I was told tales being transmitted of my virtues

Before the meeting, the transmission of basil,

حتى اغتررتُ فزرتُكم وكأنني

كَلٌّ طَرقتُ بمنكِبَيْ ثهلانِ

Until I was deceived, so I visited you, as if I were

A dog, I knocked my shoulders on two sleepy (people)

وعرائسٍ لك عذرُها مهجورة

من عاتقٍ أهديتُها وعَوانِ

And brides who have excuses abandoned

For a companion I had gifted them gowns

ما أُنشِدتْ كانت أشدَّ تعلُّقا

أبدا من الأقراط بالآذانِ

That which I recited was never more attached

Than earrings to ears

لو أُنِصفتْ لازداد ضِعفا حسنُها

ما أجلبَ الإحسانَ للإحسانِ

If she were done justice, her beauty would increase in weakness

He who brings goodness for goodness

فتَلافَيَنْ فرطَ الجفاء فبعد ما

بُلَّتْ رُبايَ إذ السحابُ جفاني

So we reconciled after the intensity of estrangement, but after

My mounts were smoothed when the clouds deserted me

جُدْ غائبا لي مثل جودك حاضرا

إني أراك على البعاد تراني

Be absent from me like your presence in generosity

I see you from afar seeing me
