1. لمن ظُعُنٌ سوائرُ لو

    صحوتُ عقلتُها لمنِ

    For whom are the bracelets, if I

    Woke up and thought of them, for whom

  2. تخُطُّ الرملَ من يبري

    نَ خطَّ الماءِ بالسفُنِ

    It draws a line in the sand, who

    Draws the line of water with ships

  3. صواعدُ يبتدرن الحَزْ

    نَ يا شوقي ويا حزَني

    Risers compete for the share

    O my longing and my sorrow

  4. بفارغةِ الحِقابِ مشي

    ن مشيَ الذيل والرُّدُنِ

    With empty pouches I walk

    The walk of the tail and thighs

  5. إذا قِيس الغزالُ بها

    بكت شَفَقا من الغَبَنِ

    If the gazelle is compared to them

    She weeps out of shame

  6. تناشدني على يبري

    نَ غضَّ الطرف تُتْبِعني

    She implores me over the sand dune

    Turning her eyes away, following me

  7. فصن سرّي وسرَّك إن

    بقيتَ بمطرَح الظِّنَنِ

    So guard your secret and mine if

    You stay in the bed of suspicions

  8. فإني عند أترابي

    بحيث الشمس لم ترني

    For I am with my friends

    Where the sun has not seen me

  9. هبيني أستُر النجوى

    أليس الدمعُ يفضَحني

    Bring me the veil of whispers

    Does not the tear expose me

  10. لساني فيك أملِكه

    ودمعُ العين يملِكني

    My tongue, I control it

    And the tear of the eye controls me

  11. فما للدمع من عيني

    مكانُ السر من أذُني

    So the tear has no place

    The place of the secret from my ear

  12. نحَلتُ نحولَ ربعكُمُ

    كأنّ عِراصَه بدَني

    I gained your emaciation

    As if its bones were my body

  13. فما منّي ومن أضغا

    ثِ داركُمُ سوى الدِّمنِ

    So I have nothing to do with

    Your homes except ruin

  14. مَن الغادي ابتغاءَ الأج

    ر يضمَن حاجةَ الضَّمِنِ

    Who travels seeking glory

    Guarantees the needy's necessities

  15. فيوصلَ سالما وطرا

    عراقيّاً إلى اليمنِ

    To deliver peacefully and purely

    An Iraqi to Yemen

  16. وأغنَى اللهُ غيْبتَه

    جراءً من بدورِ غَنِي

    And God enriched his absence

    Compensation from the homes of the rich

  17. تداعَس بالقنا الأقرا

    نُ وافتقروا إلى الجُنَنِ

    They stumbled at the reeds

    And lacked sanity

  18. وعَمُّوا بيضَ أوجههم

    بأردية الوغى الدُّكُنِ

    And whitened their faces

    With the gowns of gloomy strife

  19. وباعوا الحربَ أنفسَهم

    بما ارتخصت من الثمنِ

    And sold war their souls

    For what was cheapened from the price

  20. طِلابَ العز في الدنيا

    وطيبِ حديثها الحَسنِ

    Seekers of glory in life

    And the good of its beautiful talk

  21. فباقٍ نال حاجتَه

    وآخرُ قبل ذاك فنِي

    So one succeeded and got

    What he wanted and the other before him passed away

  22. ونال المجدَ قانِيهِ

    بلا تِرَةٍ ولا إحَنِ

    And the steadfast attained glory

    Without any blemish or fatigue

  23. فتًى من آل أيّوبٍ

    عن الحرب العَوانِ غني

    A young man from the Ayyubids

    Away from the allies of war, rich

  24. يداه له إذا خان ال

    يَدَ اليزنيُّ لم تَخُنِ

    His hands, if the hands failed

    The hands of Al-Yazni did not fail

  25. نفى أبناؤها الصّرحا

    ءُ أنسابَ القنا الهُجَنِ

    Their origins denied the castles

    The mixed origins of the reeds

  26. يثقِّفها إذا انآدت

    مراسُ الرأي والفِطَنِ

    Instruct them when they weaken

    The milestones of opinion and insight

  27. وتنقُص وهي زائدةٌ

    ولولا النقص لم تبنِ

    It decreases while increasing

    And if it didn't decrease, it wouldn't build

  28. تمجُّ دمَ القلوب ولم

    تلجْ جرحا على بدنِ

    It wipes the blood of hearts and hasn't

    Bled a wound in the body

  29. تحُلُّ بها عقودَ السح

    ر حلَّك عُقدةَ الشَّطَنِ

    It solves by it the knots of sorcery

    Like you solved the knot of raving

  30. على بيضاء مصقولٍ

    عوارضُها من الدرنِ

    White polished

    Its edges made of pearls

  31. إذا ما استوُدعتْ سرّا

    فليس تعابُ بالعلنِ

    If entrusted with a secret

    It's not flawed publicly

  32. وما كلُّ الرجال على

    ودائعها بمؤتمنِ

    And not all men are

    Trustees of its deposits

  33. يقطّر ظهرُها الأبطا

    لَ بين العيّ واللَّكنِ

    Its back drips

    Between fright and gentleness

  34. سوى متمرّس ذرِبٍ

    بُلِي بطرادها ومُنِي

    Except an experienced knight

    Tested by chasing it and fatigued

  35. فما ركبَ ابنُ أيّوب

    بلا فأسٍ ولا رَسنِ

    So the son of Ayyub never rode

    Without an axe or a spear

  36. سقى الودُّ امرأً روَّى

    نميرُ وداده غُصُني

    Affection watered a man who quenched

    My affection’s branch

  37. قنِعتُ به من الدنيا

    وجُلُّ الشيء يُقنعني

    I sufficed with it from life

    And most things make me self-sufficient

  38. ومن إخوان عَلَّاتٍ

    جَفوْا بتخالف اللبَنِ

    And from intimate brothers

    Their affection separated like curdled milk

  39. ودادُهمُ على الأيدي

    متى يتصافحوا يَبِنِ

    Their friendship obvious

    When they shake hands

  40. خبرتُهُمُ فعفتُهُمُ

    وكاثرني فوافقني

    I knew them, so I was chaste with them

    And they abundant with me

  41. سكنتُ إلى خلائقه

    سكونَ الجفن للوسنِ

    I settled for their morals

    Like an eyelid settles for kohl

  42. ولانت لي به الدنيا

    على أخلاقها الخُشُنِ

    And life was gentle with me

    Despite its rough morals

  43. ودام على مضيق الشك

    ر متسعا له عطَني

    And weeping remained spacious

    Giving me a vast plain

  44. بكل كثيرة النُّقْلا

    تِ من وطن إلى وطنِ

    With much frequent movement

    From a homeland to a homeland

  45. مع الحيتانِ في الغمَرا

    تِ والعِقبانِ في القُنَنِ

    With the whales in the ocean

    And eagles in the valleys

  46. محدّثة بسؤدده

    حديثَ الروض بالمُزُنِ

    Talking happily with him

    Like a meadow with beauty

  47. كأن طريقَها المروي

    يَ مما لاق بالأذنِ

    As if its paved way

    Is from what the ear encountered

  48. طوَى درج السنينَ وجا

    ء في الآثار والسّننِ

    It spanned the ladder of years and came

    In relics and traditions

  49. يزرنك ما وفت مِنن ال

    ثناء بمثقل المننِ

    Little of what it did reaches you

    Burdened with obligations

  50. وما جَلَبت ثلاثُ منىً

    على العشّاق من فتنِ

    And what the three brought

    Of affliction upon lovers

  51. وسَنُّوا محرمي الأبدا

    ن عَقْرَ حلائِل البُدُنِ

    And they made sacred to the eternal

    Suitors the waist’s separation

  52. وإن كان امرؤ بلغ ال

    خلودَ بنفسه فكُنِ

    And if one attains immortality

    By himself, so be it
