A promise in which the deceitful hope
Believes its lying promise
It returned today, renewed in passion
While yesterday took its leave
What fire has kindled in the thickets
With the keen eye of a wild animal
What cheek and soft glance wounded me
My heart pierced by them both
In love of him, from solid ice
Melting drops flow
O Khansa, by the passion in your nature
You are the rebel and the seeker
If you have forbidden my desire
Whence is my blood made lawful to you
Send the arrows of longing into my ribs
If your eye and brow speak truth
Who kindled the fire, now extinguished
Upon my heart - who is the arsonist?
