اللَهُ يَعلَمُ أَنّي كَمدُ
لا أَستَطيعُ أَبُثُّ ما أَجِدُ
God knows that I am tight-lipped
I cannot express what I feel
نَفَسانُ لي نَفسٌ تَضَمَّنَها
بَلَدٌ وَأُخرى حازَها بَلَدُ
My soul harbors two souls
One claimed by a country, the other by a homeland
وَأَرى المُقيمَةَ لَيسَ يَنفَعُها
صَبرٌ وَلَيسَ يُقيمُها جَلَدُ
And I see staying does no good
Patience is futile, endurance fails
وَأَظُنُّ غائِبَتي كَشاهِدَتي
بِمَكانِها تَجِدُ الَّذي أَجِدُ
And absence from my love is like her presence
She feels what I feel, though far away
