كتمتُ مشيبي بالخضابِ تعلّلاً

فلمْ يخطني شيبي ورابَ خضابُ

I dyed my gray hair as an excuse

Yet my gray hair did not fool me, nor did the dye

كأني وقد زوّرت لوناً على الصّبا

أعنون طرساً ليس فيه كتابُ

As if I had painted a false color on my youth

Announcing a baptism without a bible

غراب خضاب لم يقف من حذاره

وأعجب شيء في الحذار غُرابُ

A crow dyed, but took no precautions

And the strangest thing to take precautions against is a crow
