فَإِن يَكُنِ المَشيبُ طَرا عَلَينا

وَوَلّى بِالبَشاشَةِ وَالشَبابِ

If old age descends upon us

And youth bids farewell with joy and vigor

فَإِنّي لا أُعاقِبُهُ بِشَيءٍ

يَكونُ عَلَيَّ أَهونَ مِن خِضابِ

Then I shall not punish it in any way

Dyeing would be less painful for me

رَأَيتُ بِأَنَّ ذاكَ وَذا عَذابٌ

فَيَنتَقِمُ العَذابُ مِنَ العَذابِ

I have seen that this and that is torture

So one torture takes revenge upon the other
