I thanked my oppressor for the wrong he did me,
and, knowing full well, forgave him for it.
I saw that he had done me a favor
when, through his ignorance, he revealed my forbearance.
His offense recoiled upon him—and my bene—
ficence did too—leaving his guilt doubled.
While I emerged with reward and praise,
he emerged having earned wrongdoing and sin.
It was as though the kindness had been his,
and I, in the reckoning, were the one who wronged him.
He went on wronging me, while I pitied him,
until I wept for him because of his wrongdoing.
