فَما أَهلُ الحَياةِ لَنا بِأَهلِ

وَلا دارُ الحَياةِ لَنا بِدارِ

The people of this life are not our people,

And the home of this life is not our home.

وَما أَولادُنا وَالأَهلُ فيها

وَلا أَموالُنا إِلّا عَوارِ

Our children and family are not in it,

Nor our wealth, save borrowed wares.

وَأَنفُسُنا إِلى أَجَلٍ قَريب

سَيَأخُذُها المُعيرُ مِنَ المُعارِ

Our souls have a near end,

When the borrower will take them from the lender.
