كَفَلت لِطالِبِ الدُنيا بِهَمٍّ
طَويلٍ لا يَؤولُ إِلى اِنقِطاعِ
You burdened the seeker of this world with prolonged worries that do not end,
And disgrace in life without honor,
وَذُلٍّ في الحَياةِ بِغَيرِ عِزٍّ
وَفَقرٍ لا يَدُلُّ عَلى اِتِّساعِ
And poverty that does not indicate expansiveness,
And preoccupation that is not followed by leisure,
وَشُغلٍ لَيسَ يَعقُبُهُ فَراغ
وَسَعيٍ دائِمٍ مَع كُلِّ ساعِ
And incessant striving at every moment,
And avarice that keeps one a slave,
وَحِرصٍ لا يَزالُ عَلَيهِ عَبداً
وَعَبدُ الحِرصِ لَيسَ بِذي اِرتِفاعِ
And the slave of avarice is not one of high status.
