مَضى أَمسُكَ الماضي شَهيداً مُعَدَّلاً

وَأَعقَبَهُ يَومٌ عَلَيكَ جَديدُ

Your yesterday passed away, amended and a martyr,

And after it came a new day upon you.

فَإن كُنتَ بِالأَمسِ اِقتَرَفتَ إِساءةً

فَثَنِّ بِإِحسانٍ وَأَنتَ حَميدُ

So if yesterday you committed a misdeed,

Make amends with goodness while you are praised.

فَيَومُكَ إِن أَغنَيتَهُ عادَ نَفعه

عَلَيكَ وَماضي الأَمسِ لَيسَ يَعودُ

For if you make your day profitable, its benefit

Returns to you, and yesterday of the past will not come back.

وَلا تُرجِ فِعلَ الخَيرِ يَوماً إِلى غَدٍ

لَعَلَّ غَداً يَأتي وَأَنتَ فَقيدُ

And do not postpone the doing of good to another day,

Lest tomorrow comes while you are lost.

إِذا ما المَنايا أَخطَأَتكَ وَصادَفَت

حَميمَكَ فَاِعلَم أَنَّها سَتَعودُ

When death misses you and encounters

Your bosom friend, know that it will return.
