اِنظر إِلى السحرِ يَجري مِن لواحظهِ

وَثغرهِ بينَ أمياهٍ وأدماجِ

Behold the magic flowing from his cheeks,

And his lips between waters and kohl.

وَاِنظر إِلى وطفٍ قَد زانه كحلٌ

مُغضٍ عَلى دعجٍ مِن طرفهِ الساجي

Behold a dimple that kohl adorned,

Swollen over smooth cheeks from its edge.

وَاِنظر إِلى شَعَراتٍ فوقَ عارضهِ

كَأنّهنّ زآبيرٌ بديباجِ

Behold hairs above his cheek,

As if they were brokers in brocade.

وَاِنظر لِمبسمهِ إذ طرّ شاربهُ

كَالنملِ دبّ عَلى لوحٍ من العاجِ

Behold his smile when his moustache quivered,

Like ants creeping on an ivory tablet.

ثمّ اِعذرنّ خليعاً في محبّته

وَاِعجب لقلبِ اِمرئٍ من حبّه ناجِ

Then pardon a wicked man in his love,

And wonder at the heart of a man who whispers intimately of his love.
