No delicate branch for the gaze, leafy,
None from it a flower, fragrant, leafy,
Under it the pride of purdahs, a fruit,
Over it the garb of grace, leafy,
Suns amid poetry's nights that have
United twilight and glow, leafy,
The watcher fears lest it set when
It rose over cheeks of eve, leafy,
Eyes that forbade my sleep, though
To deny the gaze's sleep is no wrong if it stole,
Their sleep is rest for my eye, so I
Made lawful none but my tear and vigil,
The rose's blush is but shyness
From its folds when it is plucked,
Where is the cup of solace from a mouth
Of a cheek the gaze from it grew drunk,
And that they thought in it a beloved
A tear whose blood when shed,
The speaker speaks true when he sees it
Above the cup's face drops of sweat.
