May God protect the hearts from fiery passion,
From the fateful glance accompanied by surrender.
My eyes feasted on beauty one morning,
And desire taught me to cast off restraint.
May God watch over you, O twig of pomegranate,
Do not cool my burning passion with your chill.
Do not wonder that your face dims the lamp,
For no lamp can shine in the light of day.
I accepted your love and savored my torment,
I shall make no complaint of enduring my desire.
Many are fair in this world, yet for my misfortune,
My choice fell upon you alone.
