لمّا رُمي بالقَنطَجوبِ تَخضرَمت
شُرخا فتاهُ وفاضَ بالخُربعطلِ
When the kettledrum was struck, its skin was torn.
Its youth spilled out and flowed with disruption.
فَكأنّه وَالبَجقطانُ تنوشهُ
فِرغَنبسٌ يَعدو عَلى مُصطَعبلِ
It seemed as though it and the trumpet drinking it
Were a grape vine running upon Muṣṭa‘bal.
أَو كشمسٍ في عادنٍ أو شاسنٍ
رخّ الميامِنِ في صدورِ الضرقلِ
Or like a sun in ‘Ādin or Shāsin
That showed its right side in the chests of Dharqal.
قَد تبنا والحجّجورُ مخاضهُ
إِنّ الزبَرنقَ عنقلٌ في عنقلِ
It coiled, and the lizards were its coilings.
Verily Zabarinqa is a tendril on a tendril.
