بل ربّما قَد كان في أغمارِهم

إِيثارُ دُنياهم على الأديانِ

But perhaps their ignorance

Made them prefer worldliness over religions

لِلملكِ تعميمُ النفير فيغتدي

فرضُ الجِهاد إذاً على الأعيانِ

The king's mobilization leads to tyranny

Thus jihad becomes obligatory for notables

وَله وَسائل حكمهنّ كحكمهِ

مَفروضة الأعداد في القرآنِ

And he has means of ruling them

Like ruling the enumerated in the Quran

أَمست بِهذا العصرِ وهي صنائعٌ

قَد أُكملت بِتلاحقِ الأذهانِ

With this era's crafts

Brought to perfection by succession of minds

وَتَنوّعت آلاتُها وتأنّقت

فيها يدُ الإبداع والإتقانِ

And its tools have diversified and polished

By the hand of innovation and perfection

عَكَفَت عَلى اِستكمالها الآراء أع

صاراً بِصرفِ نهاية الإمكانِ

Opinions persisted

To complete them to the extent possible

ما بَينَ تَجريب وقيس مبتنٍ

مِن علمِ هندسةٍ على أركانِ

Between experimentation and erected reason

Of engineering science on its pillars

وَتَداركٍ لِمَواقعِ الخَطأ الّتي

لَم تَنكشف في سالف الأزمانِ

And correcting loci of mistakes

Not uncovered in past times

وَحبائلٍ آلَت مكائِد خدعها

لِتُعطّلنَ شجاعة الشجعانِ

And snares that twisted the tricks of their deceit

To disable the bravery of the brave

تَستوقع الغرّ المدلّ ببأسهِ

وَقعَ الهزبر بزبية الكثبانِ

To lure the easily fooled with his might

And the deluded fell into the pitfall of dunes
