هَراقَتْ بَنو عَوْفٍ دَماً غَيْرَ واحِدٍ

لَهُ نَبأ نَجْدِيُّهُ سَيَغُورُ

Banū ʿAwf have shed the blood of more than one man;

word of it will come down from Najd.

تَداعَتْ لَهُ أفْناءُ عَوْفٍ ولَمْ يَكُنْ

لَهُ يومَ هَضْبِ الرَّدْهَتَيْنِ نَصِيرُ

The subdivisions of ʿAwf rallied to his aid, though

on the day of the heights of al-Radahātayn he had no defender.

فَقُلْ لِبَني عَوْفٍ ستَلْقَونَ غارَةً

إذا ما خَبَتْ قُمْنا لها فَتَثُورُ

So tell Banū ʿAwf: you shall encounter a raid—

whenever it dies down, we rise to it, and it flares up.
