As squirrels nourish their young with crumbs

And the masses draw drink from the waters

They ascended unparted in the sky and below

Though whirlwinds rose up threatening storm

When the seven lionesses prowl in turn

Heads lower, flanks tense, ready to pounce

Then the wildcats arrived, then held back

Stalking with stealth, while the herd grazes calm

They arrived, the water they came for in tow

Necks stretched taut, strings drawn, arrows nocked

To ambush poor babes, beneath, laid low

Whom no eyes can see, no hearts appease

We described a fertile oasis for her

But it was no more than a mirage, a fleeting hope
