The dwellings have faded in decay

And their vestiges have faded away

I stood in ruins and said to my friend

As my eyes outpaced their gaze

Stronger than the stones of Mabarrah's ruins

    Its ramparts have crumbled away

And its towering heights have diminished

Until they were leveled and razed

Those who stand before and behind it

    With burnished, shining swords

Wisdom lodged most firmly in his heart

Where its specter appeared on the hillside

When issues arose, his face shone

As the cups of his sword and scabbard glistened

Brighter than a monk's pure water

Gleaming like the statue in its niche
