وَهاجِرَةٍ يا عَزَّ يَلتَفُّ حَرُّها
بِرُكبانِها مِن حَيثُ لَيُّ العَمائِمِ
Many a scorching noon, O ʿAzz—its heat coils round
the riders wherever their turbans give no shelter—
نَصَبتُ لَها وَجهِيَ وَعَزَّةُ تَتَّقي
بِجِلبابِها وَالسِترِ لَفحَ السَمائِمِ
I held my face up to it, while ʿAzza shielded herself
with her outer cloak and veil from the scorching desert winds.
