How many wretched orphans have you restored from brokenness,
and clothed, after nakedness, in garments of their own;
and many a widow, with frail ones near death, whom you sustained;
and captives in bondage whose necks you set free.
A young man who, through beneficence, surpassed—unchallenged—
all Quraysh’s elders and all its youth.
I see them as shining beacons of right guidance,
and he concurred with their sound counsel and right judgment.
With gentleness he tamed whatever he wished; and unceasing was
his disciplining, until he had subdued its refractory ones.
