رَمَتني عَلى عَميدٍ بُثَينَة بَعدَما
تَوَلَّى شَبابي واِرجَحَنَّ شَبابُها
After my youth had gone, Buthaina blamed me
When her youth was in its prime and mine on the wane,
بِعَينينِ نَجلاوَينِ لَو رَقرَقَتهُمَا
لِنَوءِ الثُريا لاستَهَلَّ سَحَابُها
With two bright black eyes, which, had she shot me a glance,
The Pleiades would have bowed down in homage;
وَلكِنَّما تَرمِينَ نَفسًا مَريضَةً
لِعَزَّة مِنها صَفوُها وَلُبابُها
But she shot at a soul which was sick at the core
Keeping its honour and purity evermore.
