لا بُدَّ في كل امر من مبالغةٍ

حتىّ تُصيبَ اعتدالاً حيثُ تَّتصلُ

In every matter there must be excess,

So that you attain the mean where you may connect

كالغصن عند اعوجاجٍ اذ تأَوّدهُ

تَلويهِ للجهة الاخرى فيعتدلُ

Like a branch when awry-if you would straighten it,

You bend it to the other side so that it balances
