أَلا يا حبذا يَومٌ تجلَّت
بِهِ الافراح ضافيةَ البرودِ
Ah, what a welcome day, when joys appeared
upon it, arrayed in sweeping robes.
أُدريرت فيهِ كاسات التَهاني
فاصبح بالمسرَّة يومَ عيدِ
In it the cups of congratulation were passed around,
and through gladness it became a festival day.
بِهِ شمس التضحى قُرِنت بهآءً
ببدر التيمِّ في سعد السعودِ
On it, the morning sun was joined in splendor
to Taym’s full moon, under Saʿd al-Suʿūd—Fortune of Fortunes.
على الاسكندريَّة قد تجلى
سنى الاسكندر الشهم السيعدِ
Over Alexandria there shone forth
the radiance of Alexander, noble and fortunate.
سطورُ مؤَرِّخيهِ بدت بنظمٍ
زِفافُكَ يَومُ عيدٍ يا ابن عيدِ
Its dating lines appeared in verse:
“Your wedding is a feast day, O son of Eid.”
