  2. أوطانُ ميّ تمرُّ السُحبُ باكيةً

    رُبوعَهنَّ أَحتىّ السُحبُ تَبكيها

    My homelands where clouds pass by weeping

    Do the clouds weep for their meadows?

  3. مأهولةٌ من قلوب العاشقين جوىً

    لكنَّها خالياتٌ من اهاليها

    Populated with the passion of lovers

    Yet devoid of its people

  4. ظلَّ الهوى حاكِماً قَلبي يَميلُ بِهِ

    نحو الأُلى في القِلا توليهِ تَوليها

    Passion ruled my heart leading it

    Towards the routes in the night, following its ways

  5. هنَّ المُحِبَّات إلّا العاشقين فلن

    تُرى عُداةُ المَها الّا المحبيها

    They are the beloved except for the lovers, so never

    Can the enemies of passion be but those who love it

  6. ربائبٌ بتراقينا أقمنَ فَما

    اقصى واقربَ ان نرجو تَدانيها

    Maidens with chastity we approached so what is

    The farthest and nearest that we wish to be near to

  7. أفدي بديعَ ظَبىً اجفانهُنَّ بها

    ظُبىً فويلَ دِمآءِي من امانيها

    I sacrifice the beauty of a gazelle whose eyelids injure me

    Oh gazelle, so woe to my blood from my wishes

  8. لا سَيفَ واللَهِ الأَلحظُهنَّ وَوا

    شوقَ القَتيل الى حربٍ يواليها

    No, by God, their glances are more deadly than

    A slain man’s craving for battle he persists in

  9. عبدٌ لهنَّ الحَشى والعينُ جاريَةٌ

    وحبذا جريُ دمعٍ من مآقيها

    A slave whose feelings and eyes are captivated

    How excellent the tears that flow from her suffering

  10. دمعٌ بصبر فؤادي صار ممتزجاً

    لما نَزَفتُ دماً لي في تصَبيها

    My patience mixed tears with the blood I bled

    When she shed blood from my passion for her

  11. لي بينهنَّ مَهاةٌ مُشبهٌ قمراً

    وجهٌ لَها وثريّا الشُهب في فيها

    Among them is a beauty likened to the moon

    A face whose youth's down began to appear

  12. راعت رَقيباً فَلَمّا دَبَّ مطلِعاً

    وَبيننا قام عتبٌ من تجنيها

    She noticed a spy so when dawn broke

    Reproach stood between us for her doubt

  13. بَدَت بِلونَين لونِ الشمس في فَلكٍ

    وَلونِها حين تَبدو في تواريها

    She appeared in two colors, the sun's orb color

    And its color when it begins to disappear

  14. عليلة الجفن وَسنى العين من سَقَمي

    سقامُها وَضنائي من هوى فيها

    Sick eyelids and sleepy eyes from my illness

    Her sickness and my emaciation from passion for her

  15. تُريك من عِطفها سِمطاً فَفي فمها

    درٌّ يَكون كعقدٍ في تَراقيها

    She shows you a fruit from her affection so her mouth

    Holds a pearl as if a necklace in her elegance

  16. فما شُفينا بطيبٍ من تجاورها

    كَما شَقينا بسُقمٍ من تنآئيها

    We were not healed by her presence’s perfume

    As we were harmed by her absence and separation

  17. طالَ النوى بضنى صال الهوى حَسَناً

    غال الجوى بدناً أَعناهُ حيها

    Longing persisted, the beloved's affection was good

    The atmosphere was heavy with grief that tired me

  18. يَحلو على النَزح منها السُهدُ عنديَ اذ

    يلَذُّ لي ان اراعي النجمَ يَحكيها

    Her estrangement is sweet when I

    Take pleasure in gazing at the stars narrating it

  19. فَيا لِطولِ لَيالِ الهَجرِ قد أَرِقَت

    عيني بها وَلَهاً ترعى دراريها

    Oh how long were the nights of separation that deprived

    My eyes rest, wandering in their slumber

  20. قد كنت أُطمع نَفسي في اللقا قِدَما

    تضمادياً وأَماني النفس تمنيها

    I used to hope to meet her steps

    As solace and the soul’s wishes desire her

  21. هَيهات يَسلو فؤادي حيث عيلَ لَهُ

    صبرٌ وكم بتُّ يُسقى الصبرَ هاويها

    Alas! My heart finds no comfort when it ails

    How much has patience been watered with its abyss?

  22. هاجَ الهوى بي فذكّى النارَ في كبدي

    يشبُّها دآؤُهُ اذ لَيسَ يُفنيها

    Passion inflamed me so it lit the fire in my liver

    Its pain resembles fuel when there is none to extinguish it

  23. شبَّت علينا العِدى حرباً واطفأَهُ

    دمٌ عدا حربَها اذ ليسَ نُطفيها

    Hatred kindled war against us but it was extinguished

    With blood other than its blood, for there is none to put it out

  24. يا طولَ ليلِ تَصَبٍّ بتُّ اسهرهُ

    وأَنشُد الشمسَ شجواً ما الاقيها

    Oh long night of wakefulness that I have spent

    And seeking the sun with laments but not finding it

  25. راقبتُ اوج نجومٍ بتُّ احسبها

    ثوابِتاً عند مَلّي من لياليها

    I observed the position of the stars, reckoning

    Them as fixed from my nightly contemplation

  26. ان الدُمى بدِمانا حُلّيت وجرت

    جَريَ العِدى بالمُدى تُشقي محبيها

    That bloodshed adorned our abodes and the enmity flowed

    Afflicting the lovers in the homelands with misery

  27. لَولا المَهاما همى دَمعٌ يَفيض ولا

    هام الفؤاد لدى خضطب الهوى تيها

    Were it not for noble goals, a tear would pour forth and no

    Heart's zeal would remain in the confusion of passion

  28. سودُ العيون بها بيض السيوف وَما

    سُمرُ الوشيج بهيجآءِ تُجاريها

    Their black eyes with swords whitened and what

    Is the redness of blood compared to their whiteness?

  29. روحي فِدآءُ جفونٍ قد خلَبنَ وان

    يكن بها الحبُّ اصلاً ظلَّ يَفديها

    My soul is the ransom for eyelids that allure though

    If passion is the origin, it remains the ransom

  30. داعي الهوى أَولَع العشاقَ فاِنتَبَهوا

    لسُكر طاساتها السَكرى سواقيها

    The caller of passion set the lovers ablaze so they awoke

    To the intoxication of its sweet cups that intoxicate

  31. تحلو لواردها تلك الكؤس بلا

    شُربٍ ويًسكر ساقي الصفو صاحيها

    The arrivals to her find that cup sweet without

    Drinking and the sober cupbearer gets drunk from it

  32. يا ويل أهل الهوى العُذريّ كم لهمُ

    فيهِ جميلٌ قبيحُ النقص تشويها

    Oh woe to the people of innocent passion, how much

    Beauty and ugly flaws diminish and ruin it

  33. كرم الهوى فيهِ حبّاتُ القلوبشجاً

    تُسقى دموعاً فيجني الشؤمَ جانيها

    The generosity of passion, shards of hearts

    Are watered with tears, misfortune reaps its sower

  34. سقيتُ دمعَ دِماً كرمَ الهوى فَسَقى

    خمراً باجفُنها الساقي يُعاطيها

    I watered the blood of tears with the passion’s generosity, so it irrigated

    Wine through her intoxicating cups its bearer shares

  35. غدا بأَكبدُ أَهل الحب يصدَعها

    دآءٌ بمَرضى عيونٍ وهيَ آسبها

    Tomorrow the hearts of lovers will grieve

    With an illness from the sickness of eyes they doctor
