أرسلت لي مع الرَسولِ سَلاماً

قُلتُ يا لَيتَني سلام الرَسولِ

You sent me a greeting with the messenger

I said, oh would that I were the messenger's greeting

كانَ في صَدرِها هواءٌ بِهِ قد

نطقَت بالسلام اذ أُهدي لي

There was in her breast an air, by which

She spoke the greeting when it was gifted to me

ليتني طيَّ صدرها فالحَشا ما

برحت وَهيمسكنٌ لِلخَليلِ

Would that I were the air filling her breast, so the breast would not

Cease being a dwelling place for the beloved
