قلنا لِذي عودٍ يظلُّ مُشاغِباً

ابداً لَهُ مثل المغيط المُحنقِ

We said to him of perfumed wood, he remains annoying

Forever to him like tight shackles

ويذيقُهُ لكزاً وَوَكزاً آخِذاً

بخناقهِ اخذَ العدوّ الازرقِ

And makes him taste beating after beating

Grabbing him by the neck, the enemy took the blue one

وكأَنَّهُ ابداً يطالبهُ بما

يعصيهِ فيهِ فكانَ ليس بمُشفقِ

As if he is forever asking him for what

Disobeys him in it, so he was not merciful

أعصاكَ في شيءٍ فَقال وَكَيفَ لا

أَوَ ما سمعتم كَم أَقولُ لَهُ انطِقِ
