وَرُبَّ حَبيبٍ لي عَدوٍّ عليَّ لَم

يزل مُمرِضي لكن اراهُ طَبيبي

Many a lover of mine was once a foe.

He caused me sickness, but then became my physician.

عَدوي بما يجني عليَّ فان أُرِد

جَزاهُ تزيّا لي بزيّ حبيب

My enemy has wronged me, but should I seek redress,

His beauty would dress me in the robes of a friend.
