If I had health to live by

I'd never worry about life's disasters

Rather, I'd go where my ancestors went

    Abundant in life to plunder

Secluded in the mountains, taking refuge

    In their caves, overlooking books

Casting myself into wilds that knew

Naught but misery, woe and war

I flee those whose affection for me cooled

No cure is better for my heart's pain than flight

I greet the dawn, but no

Eyes see save those of falling stars

And don the night wherever its

Floods flowed like clouds and rain

And mount the sea chanting while

Its swaying shakes me like rapture

I scoff at people who were created

Disheveled, unkempt, for food and drink

I carry my heart in my hand so if

Weakness befalls me I die of my fatigue

What of a man who dies if he

    Lived without purpose or profit

O land where are the gaping

    Graves, the perishing in dust

And where are the worms disputing

My body to end my alienation

O fate long has my soul's wandering been

    In this narrow, crowded confusion

And long the wandering of feeling whose

Yearning is for she whose love is a lie

If only a gentle ray of affection

Guided our eyes in the blind gloom

Omar, God, you are the greatest I meet

And death you slept despite my plea
