I have not recovered from that malady by which
The sparrow was destroyed by what made it suffer
If the health of others is lasting wellness
Then my health is the length of this malady, inevitably
I have suffered from it, from what I yielded to it
Between the ribs, so it was embers aflame
And whenever I recalled you, yearning recalled me
And despair, they are the death of the heart, both of them
I have grown weary of composing poetry which I scattered
Feelings by which tears flowed, well arranged
And I had hoped for respite in separation, but then
When I decided, fate decided against me, avenging
So I said to my soul, no sorrow and no anguish
For youth is a life that defeats illness
But disasters overcame me and crowded
Between the ribs, so my chest narrowed, crowded
O Hind, have your eyes seen any lightning
Except you then saw darkness, sudden?
By God, our hopes in life, how much it ridiculed us
And by God, longing one day will be nonexistent
My heart has surrendered my soul to sadness for its sake
So it was not safe from it, nor whole
