1. يا باخلاً بجمال عينيه

    عليَّ البخلُ عاب

    O you who are stingy with the beauty of your eyes,

    Stinginess towards me is shameful,

  2. ومفاخراً أترابه

    بمباسم الثغر العذاب

    And boasting to your peers,

    With the smiles of tormenting lips,

  3. ومغيرَ زهر الروض بال

    خدين أصلاً وانتساب

    And changing the flowers of the meadow into nothing,

    Cheeks that are originally sin and ancestry,

  4. ما ضرَّ لو نلهو ولو

    يوماً كما شاءَ الشباب

    It would not hurt if we play, even for a day, as youth desired,

    And for whom do you protect beauty by covering it stingily in a veil,

  5. ولمن تصونُ الحسنَ تنزله

    ضنيناً في حجاب

    Imagine you are this life and its splendor,

    For in it life is good,

  6. هب أنك الدنيا وبهجتها

    ففيها العيشُ طاب

    And the sun waters the flowers with its various beverages of light,

    And the moon gives itself up,

  7. والشمسُ يسقي نورها

    الأزهارَ أصناف الشراب

    To the night stripped of its wraps,

    And dawn dresses the universe,

  8. والبدر يبذل نفسه

    لليل منجرِدَ الإهاب

    And the horizons in various attires,

    And we pluck the flowers and carry them,

  9. والفجر يكسو الكون

    والآفاقَ أنواع الثياب

    As ornaments or garments,

    And we gather and smell them,

  10. والزهر نقطفه ونحمله

    كحلي أو ملاب

    As if they are aromatic perfume,

    And we see among the birds what,

  11. ونضمه ونشمه

    فكأَنه رود كعاب

    If you evoke it, responds with melody,

    All the signs of your Lord,

  12. ونرى من الأطيار ما

    إن هجتَهُ نغماً أجاب

    He has revealed them as reward,

    As atonement for what we face,

  13. آياتٌ ربك كلها

    في الحسن أَنزلها ثواب

    In life of torment,

    And life is what the wise desire,

  14. كفّارةً عما نلاقي

    في الحياة من العذاب

    And for them life is torment,

    For how far its sins have gone,

  15. والعمر بغيُ الفاهميهِ

    والحياةُ لهم عقاب

    Beauty has come to it as repentance,

    So why do you hoard it, and is there,

  16. لما تمادى ذنبها

    جاء الجمال لها متاب

    In protecting it, any benefit to be gained,

    Beauty, and it is from dust,

  17. فعلى م تذخره وهل

    في صونه نفعٌ يُصاب

    Tomorrow will return to dust.

  18. الحسن وهو من التراب

    غداً يصير إلى التراب
